Welcome new moms.  PIR weekend is different for everybody.  Some are 'grad and go' and some are on hold.  My son was staying for school, but had duty Saturday night.  He graduated during a Blizzard.  The show DOES go on.  They had to add a step.  They marched in from outside, stopped, took off their lid (hat), emptied it, put it back on and continued.  The parents looked like walking snowmen.  We shook off what we could and sat wet, cold and all smiling.  No one complained.

My son's PIR was 2006.  He was stationed in Japan and San Diego.  Now he is a navy recruiter in the state of NY.  He is married to a woman from Japan and they are expecting their 1st child December 24th.

It is never dull.

It took us about 9 hours as well to get there. Tolls everywhere!!! We only had the day with him and he flew out the next morning. He is at goose creek SC now mm in the nuke field. We are still waiting to see if he gets chit for thanksgiving. I had planned on visiting him over the holiday but we had an unexpected trip to Florence so made a long weekend of it and went to see him since it was an hour away. I won't be able to do 2 trips back to back. My best friends daughter was killed. Very sad http://Wjcl.com/2014/11/18/fort-stewart-soldier-charged-in-wifes-mu...

Greta, I know when we went it took us 9 hours. I can't remember where we stayed, that was 7 yrs ago. My son is a CTR, cryptology. We took the train into Chicago and went to the navy pier but I think things have changed a lot since we were there. Do you still get a whole weekend with them? My nephew graduated last year in December and my sister just basically got a day with him. Wasn't sure how things are now.

I have created some great journal pages to memorialize our memories and feelings while our SR's are/were in boot camp.

I hope you like the latest one:
