N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sending letters to those who are receiving no mail is wonderful and many have done it/are doing it.  So ladies....if your SR tells you of someone not receiving any mail in his/her division, please post on here that you have the name of a sailor needing mail...and let the ladies private message you for the contact info in order to send some mail.  Remember, no last names allowed publicly on this site....just private message!  Thanks!

Seans stpmom:  Just wanted to say that there are no care packages allowed to be sent to bootcamp (big trouble for this---my son had experience with this....we never figured out who sent the care package to him...no name/address---RDCs ended up eating the contents  :-)  ).  Soooo....I hope the ladies take your advice on sending care packages after they have completed bootcamp and are in school/deployed!

Seans stpmon:  You know how it was to experience other family members being in the military....but we hear it is so very different with a child in the military!  We welcome any military knowledge that you can share on here for all of the ladies!  Welcome to the group!

TG=Training Group.  Just how they number the groups during the year.

FTLW will set up the discussion forum above soon!  So hang in there!

Good Morning All!

bela02 - Yes, see you at the Courtyard.  :)  Also it sounds like both of our SRs are going to A school in Great Lakes.  My son hasn't picked out a rating yet.  The one he hoped for had an 18 month wait and he wanted to get started more than he wanted to wait for that rating.

To all:  I know I say this almost daily, but that's because almost daily I learn something new so, again, I am grateful for this place to come and dispell some of the "unknowns."  It makes this transition a little bit easier.  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Pam:  Many research the internet like crazy for the cheapest flights. Some find specials that airlines are running; others may use something like Expedia, Orbit, etc.  Just remember:  If you can use an airlines like Southwest that charges no change fee if you have to change your flights (if your SR is setback for any reason--happened to me when my son was there), and factor in that your first 2 bags check for free on Southwest, that could save you some money.  I know that Southwest offers specials every now and then.  So keep researching!  Southwest flies into Milwaukee and Chicago-Midway.  Milwaukee is usually cheaper, less traffic, cheaper car rental and is a little closer than Midway.  But if your sailor is flying out to A School, they will fly from OHare or Midway---so consider that if you plan to visit with them at the airport.

Good luck!

They get to make changes to the list about 2 weeks before PIR and they don't get their flight info until 1 or 2 days before PIR.

:( bummed out seeing everyone booking stuff for PIR. Becuase of the 4 ppl limit for PIR doesnt look like Ill be attending..which I understand since he is very very close with his family. Me being a college student I do not think I can afford to fly up to see him after PIR if he is going to leave in a couple hours for training. Does anyone know about when they find out when there flight will be to leave for A school? Also, if one of his family members are unable to make it will he have an opportunity to change the names on the access list before PIR? Or was the form letter the only opportunity.
