N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

alohacoffee, it could be either airport. Sadly there is no way to know the answer to that until PIR.

I am one excited Navy Mom tonight. Both of my Sailors (my daughter and her husband) got promoted to 3rd class Petty Officer today. YAY!!! :-D

Comment by diannep on November 20, 2012 at 7:17pm

alohacoffee:  They will fly out of OHare or Midway.  The SRs won't know yet....

Pam:  Are you asking where I booked my ticket to PIR?  Because I have already been through my son's PIR.  Just stay on the site to help out!

bela02--My oldest son just started A school at Great Lakes, after he was checked into his A school he called us to meet up at that point they can have their cell phone, laptop, etc. I brought a few clothes that he sent home as they have to earn the civilian clothes chit (around 2 weeks) I ended up mailing his clothes. The thing I did not bring that he was told he could have was a blanket so he didn't have to use the one issued (the wool blanket). Everything must fit into their cabinet and I have been told each barrack has different rules for what is acceptable.

Just book room at Springhill Suites for 93.00 a night. This price has changed since Sunday. Sunday it was 141.00 a night. I guess it pays to keep looking and cancel the more expensive one.

Yea!  Hopefully we can find each other!  Yes, Dylan is staying in Great Lakes for A-School.  Advanced Electronics Computer Field.  He is Ship 12 Div 47.

annabellswish: I also booked our hotel at Marriott Courtyard and flying Southwest. Is he stying in Great Lakes for A-School? What's his ship/div? I have the same questions about what to bring...

Comment by Annabellswish on November 20, 2012 at 5:48pm

We just booked our hotel (Marriott Courtyard) and flight (Southwest) too!  I'm so excited...it worked out perfectly for our other son, who's 11, to be able to join us because he will still be on Christmas Break.  I wish I knew what I should bring.  His phone, laptop, clothes?

P.S. Skimbo, we are in Katy, TX.  We actually took our son to San Antonio MEPS, he enlisted in San Marcos.  :)
