~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

alohacoffee: All leave must be approved with a CHIT. They will do this at A School too for leave before duty station. The Navy has to know where they will be on their leave.
We just made our flight and hotel reservations! Getting excited. Staying at Residence Inn. I liked what I've heard so far. The rooms were going fast. Now, we just wait to find out if we get any extra time with our boy or not. I still haven't gotten a phone call or letter from him. I've been really blue this week. I know it's normal, so I'm just writing to him more. I am looking forward to meeting some of you other moms later. I haven't met anyone on here from San Antonio yet. Anyone?
Most of your sailors will be able to take some leave when they go from their A school to their first duty station. It will depend on how long their A school training is, on how much time they will have accrued. If they live close to their A school, some are even able to get home for a weekend or so while in A school. Obviously, the longer their training is, the more time they will have to take when they leave A school. They will have accumulated about 5 days of leave once they graduate from boot camp.
My son is going to A-school in Great Lakes, and i read that they check in into the school right after the graduation (same day). Does that mean that i can give him his cell phone later during the day if he already has checked in at A-School? Just a little confused if i should take his stuff with me...Txs
Navy Mom: We took the shuttle from our hotel to the base. Worked out great for us....no car lines for the shuttles, we left at 6:30 a.m. and were at PIR Hall by 7. It doesn't start until 9, but there is pre-ceremony activity going on...and you must arrive early to avoid traffic and get a better choice of seats in your division section.
Some drive and park on base (but you must leave earlier to get in car lines....Sarge - more about him later-- may have "hints" for you on this!)....others park next door at the train station (paid parking)...and walk over to RTC. That is a good idea if you and your sailor will be catching the train into Chicago to sightsee after PIR. Weekend train passes are about $7. Sailors get a discount. Again, for those attending Sarge's MeetandGreet (that info will be posted on here as you get close to PIR), you will get all of this info.
Any transportation needs for those not wanting to rent a car? Call or text Sarge. He has a wonderful transportation service from the airports and around GL/to and from PIR also. He will be busy today and tomorrow with the PIR group graduating tomorrow....so you may want to wait until next week or later to contact him. 847 212-0246
A little about Sarge: He is retired military, in the area for over 30 yrs. He is a blessing to the sailors there at A School with no cars....he puts on his own MeetandGreet at Sundance Saloon (don't let the name fool you....all are welcome, including children)....the night before PIR. He pays for the food out of his own pocket and it is free to you! He accepts donations however :-). He loves doing this....he is very special to the Navy families. He has a team of guys who work with him so he can get you where you need to go. His rates are cheaper than the average rates for cabs/shuttles in the area. He charges by the car, so if you can share with another family on trips to/from airport, it can be a very good thing! We have heard nothing but rave reviews from families who have used his services.
Good Morning Ladies!
Courtyard Marriott is one that we recommend. It is close to Sarge's MeetandGreet (the one of the 3 that we recommend that you all attend the night before PIR....lots of info from him, and good food (free but donations accepted since he pays for it out of his own pocket each week). There is a SpringHill Suites right there too (these are next to the Walmart shopping center that has some restaurants, etc in it). Residence Inn, where we stayed is just up the street. All are good hotels with the PIR shuttle service. Residence is "pet friendly". SO for those driving, consider bringing pets to reunite with your sailors!
By the way, Residence Inn has studios and 2 bedroom 2 bath suites (queen in each room, pull out sofa in living room, fireplace), all with full kitchens. Free hot buffet breakfast, served earlier on PIR morning. We used our AAA rate and saved 10 percent. They have a grad rate too but was sold out when we went.
DavesMom, I also booked a room at the Courtyard Marriott. I guess i'll see you there!
I booked a room at the Courtyard Marriott in Waukegan, Gurnee. There will be 4 or 5 of us so I needed a big room. This one is a 2 Queen Suite for $119/night. Seemed reasonable. They have a pool/hot tub, but no breakfast included. Does anyone have firsthand info about the Ramada? I wanted to take their family suite, but their online reviews were horrible.
Have you booked your room yet i am just trying to figure out whats the best place for us to stay for four people
