~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I received my letter today, Jan4,2013 Ship 3 Div 052. We are going to drive we live in Michigan. There is so much information here thank goodness for this Website. Should we just leave the car on base and take a shuttle to our hotel or what would be the best. I want to see him March and I dont want to be late wherever we end up staying

Comment by diannep on November 19, 2012 at 9:31pm

Yes, corbie:  The ones already in A School for Christmas have a different situation.  Most of the bases have a holiday stand down and therefore, many can can take leave.  But since it does count as leave, some may not choose to do that in order to save their leave days to use later....they have more of a skeletal staff on the bases during this time.

CO-TwinSalorsMom; Those with "shorter" A Schools get leave when done...I'm not sure how it works if they are in longer A Schools--probably best to ask that question on your son's future A School group on this site....I know they get to take leave during holiday periods....my son's A School was only 2-3 mos long and he took leave after that before reporting to duty station.

They can sometimes take leave during A-school. It has a lot "if's" in play. Like if the base is on stand down and they don't have watch, if they get a CHIT approved, How far away are they going, how long is A-school, it can be different for every Sailor and every base. The only way to know for sure if for your Sailor to have it in writing.

After A school means no leave for mine until 2015!! That can't be right.

Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on November 19, 2012 at 8:36pm

I have heard that A school shut down for holidays.  I read something about BC taht if you are graduating after 12-21 you had to be back by 12-30.?

Comment by corbie (Ship 12 Div 047) on November 19, 2012 at 8:18pm

diannep-I understand that the recruits in boot camp do not get to come home for Christmas,.As far as A school I wonder if it depends on the individual base or if it is just due to the holiday shut down because my oldest is in A school and has his leave approved for December. I was a little surprised as others have said not until after A school when they are at their first duty station.

Comment by diannep on November 19, 2012 at 7:47pm

No, they won't be home for Christmas   :-(.  Mine was gone for Thanksgiving and Christmas too the year he went in.  Yes, their first leave will be after they have completed A School.

Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on November 19, 2012 at 6:11pm

will they come home for Christmas  or not?  It seems a bit confusing.

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on November 19, 2012 at 5:25pm

I'm with FTLW and think that there is a good possibility that most of them will likely fly to their A school on Saturday.  There is always the greater possibility of inclement weather in January and flight could be interrupted, so I would think that they will probably take that into consideration as well.  Of course, like FTLW said, anything could and sometimes does change.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 19, 2012 at 5:09pm

alleyoop90 - Well, ANYTHING could happen! Since the Sailors that are on Leave have to be back on 01/06 they may make sure that the new Sailors get there on Saturday. But, they could leave Sunday as well.

I am guessing that it will be "worked out" based on the different Commands (are they going to be receiving them on Saturday) RTC and flight availibility.
Several Factors are involved

I will take a look at last years PIR...but that would only be a "picture"...each year is different.

We do recommend for every PIR that if you can, book through until late Sunday. The possibility that those that fly out for A school could leave on Sunday rather than Saturday is there for EVERY PIR...not just ones that have a Holiday involved.
