~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I heard a lot of the training schools are on "stand down" for the holidays until 1/7/13. Does that mean they would still fly out the saturday after graduation even if they school is on stand down?
Have to do some reading back...kinda "off" on the weekends with the Family!
It is official from RTC Website for this TG:
TG 8 - 9 Divisions (045-052 and 908) Graduate Friday, Jan. 4, 2013
We will be creating Division Discussions in the DISCUSSION FORUM within this PIR GROUP in the next day or two...once we have a mpre established GROUP.
By "shipping out", they mean that is when they leave RTC ...on the bus to the airport. They are all bussed to the airports as a group to wait for flights. Some may be waiting at the airport until late afternoon/early evening for a flight. Extra time for family members to visit at the airport in that case. Others may leave at around 6:30 in the morning...the rest in between.
alohacoffee, she should get the day of PIR to hang out with family, but as corbie stated, the sailors who are going to GL for A school, will have to check in before they leave the base. This will usually take a couple of hours. Most other sailors will leave for A school either very early Saturday morning or later in the day Saturday. This could change, but it's not very likely. We always suggest that you try to plan to stay through Sunday if possible, just in case. Also, if you plan to wait with your sailor at the airport, you will need to allow for time to get to the airport for your own flight, especially if you are not flying out of the same airport as your sailor.
At my oldest son's PIR those that were flying out were able to leave right after PIR but had to report back earlier for their trip to the airport around 2am. My son had to remain on base after PIR until he checked in on the other side of base, which took a few hours. The sailors that have A school at Great Lakes have varying times of when they check-in depending on the building rules they are assigned to.
Hi alcohacoffe,
From what i read on www.bootcamp.navy.mil if he's going out of state for A-school they usually fly out the next day (saturday). Hope it helps.
Chele: The first batch of mail is usually give to the sailors on Sunday. This is mail that has been held until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer has been trained. After that, they should receive mail M-F. However, they may not be allowed to "mail out" more than once a week and this is usually on Monday (writing on Sunday). My son's letters always came on Thursdays. Sooo.....it depends on where you live and how often they can mail out. Some divisions may be allowed to mail out more often as bootcamp goes along.
Yes, Sundance Saloon is not a hotel. It is near Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn....all great hotels and PIR shuttle. We stayed at Residence...loved it. They have studios and larger 2 bdrm 2 bth units for those with larger groups. Full kitchens. Hot buffet breakfast, served earlier on PIR morning. Quiet office park area, but close to WalMart shopping center (Springhill and Courtyard are next to the shopping center). Sundance is right in this area. All family members are welcome, children included, even though the name DOES say "Saloon." :-) All is ok! Sarge's is the best! Great info there. There are 2 other meetandgreets but none with the info that Sarge's has.
Be sure to ask the hotels for the Navy grad rate. However, some have reported that when they booked online, they got a cheaper rate than what the hotel front desk reported as the grad rate. So check out both. We happened to use our AAA rate at Residence when there. Oh, and Residence is pet friendly! So...if driving and your almost-sailor is missing his/her pet, consider bringing him/her!
Flights....check out Southwest Airlines first...because of no change fee (in case your SR gets asmoed (setback)) and 2 bags per ticket check for free. You can fly into Milwaukee or Chicago-Midway. Milwaukee is closer, no traffic, cheaper car rental.
Yes, you can arrange transportation with Sarge whenever you want to. He has a team who works with him. They will take care of you. Text or call him.
847 212-0246
He will be busy with Wed's PIR group this week....so if he doesn't answer you right away, no worries. He will get back with you. He will be doing airport shuttles starting today, MeetandGreet tomorrow night for them, then PIR Day shuttles on Wed....
