OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I feel so stupid. I have been writing my son letters but I put the wrong middle initial on the address. Now I am so worried he won't get any of those I already sent..

MsMom:  That would be a nice item to include in a care package once he is at A School!  A little late....but enjoyable!  :-)

Thankful for the countdown clock, makes it seem not so long, 48 days! The only thing that I am dreading is the holidays. M is my youngest of 4 and this will be the first time we will not be together for the holidays. He made the comment the last time we saw him in Oct. that he wouldn't get his pie this year. He always got a whole pumpkin pie to himself. A favorite since he was little. Makes me emotional thinking about it.

Oh, michelle.  Is your older son deployed now?  I take it he is not in A School since many times, they get to come home for Christmas when in A School.  My son was also in bootcamp for a Thanksgiving/Christmas.  Plus his older brother had moved out 2 weeks before he left for Bootcamp.  Empty nest (no hubby here either)....just my sweet pups.  It was a hard time...but we get through it!  Military families learn to roll with the punches and get stronger :-)...and just a suggestion if it works for you:  When my son was about to miss his 3rd Thanksgiving with us, I couldn't stand it.  I gave up going to my family/extended family's gathering and headed up to VA to be with him.  Of course, if they are deployed...obviously that won't work.  But I found cheaper air rates flying actually on Thanksgiving Day, and was only there for 2 days....but it was a wonderful time....we even grabbed one of his sailor buddies who had no family there, who took us on a tour of the historical sites in Williamsburg!  We were able to give this guy some family time with us as he acted as our tour guide!  :-)  A win-win situation!

Welcome back for round 2!

My son is also ship 11, div 055! I mailed my letters this morning! I was so happy to get that form letter! I had to warn all the relatives because his b-day was this past Mon so that they would not send anything crazy! He is our oldest and we are missing him like crazy!

My son is Ship 14 and Div 053.  This is my second son to join so it is a lot easier knowing what to expect in the weeks to come and also at graduation.  Sure is going to be tough this Holiday Season, first time both my older boys will not be here for Christmas.
