OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Proudmom, please tell your husband he has got lots of prayer warriors on his side! We will see you in a couple days. I am sure they can accommodate wheelchairs and he won't miss a a thing.

Got letter from my daughter dated 12-31-2013. She said it had been a long week and told me what was scheduled for the rest of the week.  She has been worried about her run. Will she do battle station if she doesn't pass her run.  Waiting for a call.  If it's too cold for them to walk to phones, they should send a bus for them. Don't they know how many people are waiting for calls.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 7, 2014 at 10:38am

Good morning everyone, I hope some calls start coming in today but with the bitter cold they are experiencing I bet they are not letting them go to the phone bank. It is quite a distance from the ships.

Aznavymom prayer to you all, he will do it! This emotional ping pong is driving me nuts. I knew it would be difficult on our SR's but never thought it would be this difficult on all of us! Payers for call for all! This ride in the journey is almost over...then I guess we will all be in to the next ride. Stay warm all!
