For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Many are administrative help to the VIPs during PIR ceremonies, etc...That is usually behind the scenes work. Each member of the 900 divisions has a very important job! Lala has more info on the 900 divisions since her daughter was in one. She may post later....has been a bit under the weather, she said, but feeling better now!

Also want to let you know that you can put your SR's cell phone on Military Suspension for the 2 months that he/she wiil be in Boot Camp. Just contact your cell phone carrier after your SR has made his/her "I'm Here" call and the phone is on its way back to you in The Box or any time after you get it back. You can do this for free and it will save on the monthly charges on that phone. You can re-activate it for the day before PIR. I was able to easily re-activate my daughter's cell phone online at Verizon Wireless.

Comment by navymomx3 on November 30, 2013 at 1:46am: momof1navyguy - your son is probably playing an instrument if that's what his experience is. It seems like most of the SR's in the 910 division so far have musical experience. My daughter doesn't have any - that's what surprises me so much.

She is musical also, plays 2 instruments and self thought to a bit on the guitar...so she has a good musical ear, but flags?My daughter used to be a klutz! seriously, she was falling and tripping all the time. As she turned 15 she changed, no more incidents- a total proper young lady. But I keep on imagining her tripping with the flag or banging everyone with it, and knocking the whole line like dominos! lol

LOL He spent 4 yrs in the HS Marching Band. He can play 3 instruments. So, its a little ironic that is is in flags and not actually playing an instrument. However, pretty cool because his dad was also in flags 19 yrs ago.
