~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sorry, I made a mistake below.  Children 3 and older have to be on the list.  Only those 2 and under can remain off of the PIR guest list.

Click on the link above for the official word from RTC.

Jamie:  They have changed all of that about the extra guests getting in....starting now.  It is very sad, but they have also lowered the age of the children who did not have to be on the guest list....used to be 12 and under did not have to be on the list....now it is 3 and under.  Also, retired/active duty military, who normally got in without being on lists, have to be on the lists.  This has caused quite a stir in the present groups...the Thanksgiving group was notified of this after they had already purchased tickets to PIR....very sad.  Today's PIR group has 15 divisions in it...so they were limited anyway on extras for this group, but again, the rule was in place....absolutely no extras allowed in.  If your name is not properly on the list of 4 (matches ID), you are sent back to your car or the shuttle.

JohnsMom:  No, extra guests are not even allowed on the base.  So don't bring them!

Comment by Obnoxred1 on November 30, 2012 at 1:32pm
@jamie, although they used to let extras in of there was room, the RTC website is really stressing the fact that if the guests aren't on the list they aren't getting in....

@johnsmom - There is a mall close by that has a rainforest restaurant.. There are also a bunch of restaurants close by.  I don't recall how many divisions graduated - I believe it was 9 divisions.  We had 2 perfermance divisions in ours.

Jamie ship02 div915, do you recall how many divisions graduated at your daughters PIR in March?
Comment by Monica13063 on November 30, 2012 at 1:09pm
Zachsmom & BeeBee, my son is heading to Pensecola, FL after BC. Does anyone know if extra guests have anywhere to hang out at RTC even if they aren't on the list to actually go in to the ceremony? We have a big family and his girlfriend and 4 sisters all want to see him before he leaves for A School, regardless of getting in to the PIR ceremony.
Comment by Jamie SHIP13 DIV 067 on November 30, 2012 at 1:07pm

My daughters PIR was in March 2012.  They allowed extra guest if room was available.  So they had those guests that were not on the list wait until all the guest that were on the list checked in.  Then the ones that were not on the list were also let in

Comment by diannep on November 30, 2012 at 12:55pm

Please have your SRs list the guest names for PIR as they appear on the ID that those guests will be showing at the gate.

greenmagician:  So sorry...but don't think your local people can go to PIR (no names on another sailor's list are allowed anymore) unless some of your original 4 cannot.  But hopefully they can hang out afterwards with you all!  Also, you may want to order them the PIR DVD so they can at least see the ceremony later.  Your SR has a chance to order this when ordering pictures.....or....you can order it after PIR in the NEX.  I believe it is $29 still.

Comment by diannep on November 30, 2012 at 12:50pm

brandonsmom:  059 would be correct.  They make every effort possible to get the letters to the SRs with wrong addresses.  From what I have read on here, they are usually successful!

Obnoxred is absolutely correct about no extra guests allowed to be put on another sailors' lists.  They are no longer allowing any "extras" in at all, so only those on your list will get in with proper ID.  If any of those names change, no problem.  They will be updating their lists a week or two before PIR, so just make sure that your SR knows about that change.

locogirlp:  There is still time to receive the box.  It has only been 10 days if she arrived on the 20th.  Sometimes they can take up to 2 weeks or more to arrive.  No, RTC can't help you with that.  Doubt FedEx could either without a tracking number.  Just be patient....would she have sent it to anyone else?  If not, then it should arrive shortly.  The only time SRs don't send boxes home is if they are donating their clothing up there and they have no valuables with them---so nothing to send home.  They are allowed to keep their wallets, but phones, etc must come back home.

Johnsmom from what I've heard except for the 800 divisions rate is not a consideration in creating the divisions. I agree that it is good to connect with others and that our boys have something in common. My son will be staying in Great Lakes for A school.
I'll be stalking the mailman today looking for the letter today. I'll also be getting some letters out in the mail today. They will hopefully be able to write us on Sunday so I'm crossing my fingers hoping to hear from him next week. One down seven more to go!!
