Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

If you pause the video at that point and move the progress slider a little at a time, you can see them frame by frame. You might catch a glimpse of your SR. For $45 a month, unlimited talk, text, and downloads. They have a wide variety of phones, all the way down to about $40. After the initial month if your son likes it, he can buy pre-buy up to 6 months of plan for $249 which is all unlimited.

Comment by diannep on January 6, 2013 at 9:08pm: ZachsWife/Lola: Both good ideas. On the clothing, they can't wear that until they phase up, but will have it when they do. When you speak to your new sailor, ask him/her what they want brought up there. You can always bring it back home. Just remember that if flying out to A School, they have to keep track of a large seabag and garment bag (uniforms)---both checked luggage---and a black backpack. So anything you can bring that will fit into these items will help them. All has to be given to them at the airport.

If at GL A School, they will be able to see how much room they have to bring things in since they move over there right after PIR. You can always mail more of their personal items once you get home or bring them on a visit to A School.
