Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I have never scrapbooked but once I started receiving his letters I started a book- I have his letters taped on patriotic background paper with all different navy stickers in a scrapbook.

Got to tell you all that these kids had a rough go of it last spring when a EF3 tornado hit their neighborhood and our school.  Many had tremendous damage on their homes, some lost their homes completely.  Our school suffered some damaged, but I can tell you that many, many kind souls reached out to the kids and the kids received many cards from across the state.  It is a good thing for the kids to respond and do random acts of kindness themselves.  They truly love sending the recruits cards.  The superintendent of schools for our district dropped by yesterday while we were doing and he even made a card for one of the recruits.  I would encourage all to make cards....get a group of people together and send those words of encouragement as they gear up for Battle Stations.

Oh, the teachers got a kick out of one of the SR's letters.  At the end of his letter he said,  p.s.  Girls really do have cooties.....ha!!  Glad that they still have a sense of humor.

Comment by diannep on January 4, 2013 at 5:31pm

Oh green magician.  That is so wonderful!  Both for the SRs and for the kids!

The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders of the school I teach were pleasantly surprised with many letters from the SR's of Ship 13 Div 067 today.  The students sent the SR's Holiday cards and now they are receiving sweet letters back from them.  The recruits are thanking the kids for taking their time to write to them, they appreciated the kids and their encouraging words.  Many of the recruits told the kids that they need to listen to their teachers, study in school, and tell their families that they love them.  The kids were smiling from ear to ear all afternoon. I am mailing over 100 cards of encouragement today to the Div 067.  The cards are wishing the recruits well on their upcoming final test Battle Stations 21.  There are many, many words of encouragement written by the kids.  To the parents of recruits 067, you have some wonderful soon to be sailors that have made the day of some young kids.  Thank you
