~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thank you TSC GL PAO...standing by for your info on the Gateway Inn. :-)
DRIVING A/YOUR VEHICLE ONTO RTC
I posted this earlier and TSC GL PAO just posted this...RTC is a restricted base and you must have either an RTC base sticker for your vehicle OR the Vehicle Gate Pass in order to be able to drive your vehicle onto RTC.
DoD stickers from other bases will not gain you entry with your vehicle.
Here is the direct quote from RTC FB FAQ's on that (I couldn't post it last night as my internet was down, used phone):(underline and italics mine)
HOW DO I GET A GATE PASS FOR GRADUATION?
A gate pass is required if you are bringing your vehicle onto the base for graduation. If you are taking a hotel shuttle or taxi, you do not need a gate pass. During their first week of training, the recruits will include a password in their form letter home. Beginning 11 days prior to graduation, you may download your gate pass from our website at www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp Only your recruit can confirm this password. Please do not contact our office as we do not give out this information as it is a breach of security to do so. All vehicles must have a gate pass. RTC is a restricted base and all vehicles must either have RTC base stickers or the gate pass. If you do not have either, you will not be allowed to drive onto the base. You will either have to take a hotel shuttle or taxi to the gate and then it's about a 100-yard walk to the visitors center where all guests will check in.
All,
Please allow me to clear things up. I just got off the phone with PAO and what I said previously IS correct. Those parents visiting for RTC boot camp PIR and staying at the Gateway Inn CAN have their new sailor visit them there. This is straight from their mouth!
Sailors attending RTC "A" school cannot. I hope this clears things up.
One more thing needs to be clarified as well. If you have a DOD sticker on your vehicle, it is good at all military installations as long as you have proper I.D.
If you still have questions just ask away. Have a great Navy day!!! :)
This is a bunch of BS I am on the phone again trying to sort this out. As a retired Chief Petty Officer we preach "communication" is key yet a straight answer to this question is difficult. I have reservations on base since I am retired Navy. Why would my son/daughter not be allowed to go there for the few hours we have together? This is rediculous. Stand by for more information.
Welcome back FTLW, I hope you had a fabulous vacation :)
Thanks so much for clearing that up, VicPat. I sure hope that is correct. The reason the two GL A School employees said no was because they were considered "students." Sailors, yes....but students. Had never heard that before.
If you don't mind, can you please post after your PIR experience on here and let us know if there were any problems? We N4Moms veterans would sure like to know how to appropriately advise the next groups. Thanks so much!
Good morning all,
I just called and spoke to RTC PAO, a YN1 Porpura who stated that once my son finishes Pass in Review he is considered a Sailor and not a recruit. He WILL be allowed to stay or visit with us at the Gateway Inn on base.
Hope this helps all.
Good Morning!
VicPat: On the gate pass being needed with your DoD stickers on the car....maybe not, but I would print one out just in case and have it in the car.
