~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

ellen:  TSC GL PAO from the Public Affairs Office at GL A School posted on Bootcamp Moms (23 hrs ago) that no sailors who are students there are allowed to visit rooms of anyone at Gateway.  The hotel is off limits to them.    Angie (who works over there too) posted the same thing.  So....apparently, that is the message being sent out.  As a result of VicPat's call, RTC PAO is probably getting the info from GL Public Affairs Office.

Diannep: Not sure you get my replies from email so here goes. I am awaiting word from RTC quarterdeck as to whether recruits can go to the Gateway Inn with their parents. The Petty Officer who answered the phone did not know so he is asking the CDO and will call me back with the information. I hope I do not have to change reservations this late. I will inform all once I know something.

One more thing. Will I need the pass if my vehicle has DOD stickers? Thanks again.

You are very welcome!

zaksmom:  You get the airlines gate pass the day you meet your sailor there.   There is no charge for the passes.  :-)  Make sure you have ID with you!

Comment by diannep on January 2, 2013 at 3:39pm

zaksmom:  They usually know their travel the week of PIR...but not always---some may not know until last minute (by PIR Day)....it varies...so be nice to your SR!!!  :-).  When they have large groups, such as the Pensacola group, they sometimes have to book on Sundays to get all out at the same time.  We always recommend that people book their return flights late Sunday or like DrewsMom did, even on Monday.  That way you will for sure miss no time with them.  And there is lots of sightseeing to do if your sailor leaves (as ours did!).

Just remember, travel plans for them can change.  Happened to FTLW when her son was there.  Worked in her favor since she had booked through the weekend anyway....and his travel change allowed him to stay through the weekend.  HOOYAH!

@Zaksmom.... My daughter told she she should know a week before PIR and them some say they don't know till after PiR when they go back and move from the ship to the holding ship where they wait to leave. But too many different answers. :)))

Interesting about the fly-out days. We got our plane tickets pretty cheap, but on the provision that we fly out on Monday. Even with an extra night at the hotel, it worked out better and none of us work on Mondays anyway. Since we are all the way over there, we might do some sightseeing.

Comment by diannep on January 2, 2013 at 3:17pm

By the way, VicPat:  If you decide to keep your Gateway Inn reservations, and plan to walk from there to RTC for PIR, it is about a 2 mile walk.  The bases are close together, but the hotel is nestled towards the back.  Another lady in another PIR group just checked that out since she planned to walk until she saw how far it was.

For those planning to take hotel shuttles to PIR, no gate pass is required (but I have to say, I had one tucked into my purse just in case).  But if you return your sailor to RTC that night and even for original entrance onto GL A School base for those moving there (they move shortly after PIR)....you will need it.  So we recommend that all download this pass and keep it.  Remember, it won't be available to print until Monday.  You write in the info on your sailor.

Comment by diannep on January 2, 2013 at 3:14pm

VicPat:  On the password you received in the form letter...this will be used to download your gate pass for PIR (if you plan to drive on base).  You will need to type this in ALL CAPS once you see the prompt next to your PIR date on the RTC site letting you know the pass can be downloaded now.  They should have these available to download on Monday.  So be checking this page:
