~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Patty:  Some will wear the division tshirts to PIR.  Some to the MeetandGreets.  Some to both. Some like to dress up more for PIR.  After all, your sailors will be in their Navy finest!  But you will see some tshirts at PIR.  Wouldn't say it is customary...you will see a little bit of everything as far as dress goes at PIR!

BTsmom:  No, if they are not scheduled to leave until Sunday (rare, but it does happen), then they stay at RTC and are bussed out early Sunday morning.  Most will fly out on Saturday.  They usually don't fly out on Sunday unless they couldn't get flights on Saturday.

VicPat:  Not a problem for entrance to RTC for PIR.  Not sure about A School base, but don't think it would be a problem since she has her license.  However, I would give Gateway a call to see what they say about your sailor being there.  We have been told that the new sailors are not allowed in Gateway since they are students.  Someone from the RTC Public Affairs Office just posted that in the last day or so.  I say this because I'm sure your sailor will want to rest in your room.  You may want to call the RTC Public Affairs Office and ask about this:  847 688 2405

Please post what you find out as we have had conflicting info.  Angie, who works on GL A School base, also said that the new sailors/students are not allowed inside Gateway Inn.

Any hotels off base (including Navy Lodge) are ok for the sailors to be in.

@ BTsMom..... Good question. I was wondering that too and if they don't leave till Sunday would we be able to spend time with her on Saturday too? Ans if that is the case which I hope it isn't then I will have to mail her cell phone, laptop etc to her in Pensacola. Cause we leave out from Chicago sat evening. Lets keep our fingers crossed then leave sat. I know she wants her cell phone!!

My SR said something about maybe not flying to A school til possibly Sunday?! Is that possible too? Does that mean they have to stay in the airport all day and sleep there too?

Is it customary to wear the division tshirts to PIR or to the meet and greets?

diannep,

I am retired Navy. I have my ID and vehicle has DoD stickers, however my wife's dependent I.D. card is expired (no time with work to update) but she has a picture ID (license). Will this suffice for base entry as we are staying at Gateway Inns/Suites? Thanks.

Also, I recieved the passcode from my son. What is this for and when do I need it?
