~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@southcarolinaproud-when my son was at BC in july-sept. He signed up to have the picture cost taken out of his Navy Federal Credit Union acct or it was out of their BC payroll. Cant remember which way it was...somethings were automatic out of payroll.

@ Diannep I might be in luck cause when I talked to my daughter on the phone she said they were taking pics today so hopefully she could pay for them today after they took them then her card doesn't expire till the last day of Dec. lets hope but if not then we will pay for them at PIR. Thanks so much for the info. :))) u r definitely a sweetie along with All the Veteran Moms on here wish I could meet u guys. U never know. :))))

SouthCarolinaProud:  Don't blame you for not wanting to mail the new debit card.  Some do that, but it is risky.  No, she won't be able to pay for the piks then...unless she has a credit card?  But....you can pay for them after PIR in the NEX.  Many do that.  She has a supply account that she got when she arrived for necessities at the NEX.....should be sufficient....but she won't have money for the piks.  I would just plan to pay after PIR, just my suggestion.

BTsMom:  We recommend that you stop writing a week before PIR, but if you want to continue, copy letters and take copies with you to PIR in case they  don't arrive.  They are forwarded to their A Schools but we all know how that goes sometimes...  :-)

BTsMom. I have Sprint and I did that also and they didn't take it out this month. Call them again and tell them they messed up. They will fix it. I think my last letter will go out no later than the 7th or so cause it takes almost a week to get there and they probably won't write back after that with Battlestations that week of or before PIR. Just my thoughts. :))))

Even though I like all these things to buy I'm not purchasing anything until My SR says she's interested. Don't you know how that goes?

I too need advice. Was with my SR when the cell was put on hold status for bootcamp and just found out they took the money out anyway! Anyone with Sprint and have advice as to what I should do?

I also would like to know when is the last day we should mail a letter? Don't want mail getting lost or having to play catch up.

Awes that coin is very nice. I am ordering one too. :)))).

Veteran Moms. Question?? My daughter took her debit card with her to bootcamp but it expires this month( Dec). Uggh. I just got her new one. Will she still be able to get money out of her account like for pictures, etc if she needs to without her card??? I didn't want to mail her new one to her in risk of losing it in the mail I was gonna give it to her when at graduation, or should I mail it to her? Advice ????

I am so happy.  I just received by beautiful boot camp coin for my sons graduation. It is so detailed and the picture doesn't do it justice.  I am so happy....  I got it at pirgifts.com and it was only $18.95.  They have all the ships.

Hey Moms, Hope all had a wonderful Christmas. It was just me and my son. It was good but not the same. When I talked to my daughter on the phone Christmas Eve for about a hour she said the only reason they got to call was that their division was doing good. She also said that her division was gonna be Week 4 Day 2 Wednesday of this week so today they should be 4:4 and Monday they should be finishing hell week. Hoping for a letter today but after talking to her for a hour I am ok with waiting on mail. 3 weeks to go!!!!!! Yahhhh!

wow, Betsy, that's the kind of stuff the old-school Navy/military guys I've known liked to talk about, glad to hear some of them still get to have those sorts of adventures!

Comment by diannep on December 28, 2012 at 2:45pm
