~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Oh wow BTsmom, I really don't know, I always heard you had to have birthcertificate and SS card if they did not have photo ID. I would call the PAO tomorrow morning and see what you can do. Maybe get a faxed copy of his birth certificate from his school. I am so sorry. i wish I could be of more help.

Comment by diannep on January 16, 2013 at 9:32pm

Let's hope not, BTsmom:  Hopefully the insurance card and library card, with his name on the list, will be enough.  Unless someone can get into your house right now, get his photo ID, take it to someone (Fed Ex or UPS?) who could get it out tonight and to your hotel tomorrow.  Ladies have done that in the past.

HELP!!! I'm in Iowa on our way to GL and we just found out that my 14 yo didn't bring ID. All I have is an insurance card and a library card. Nothing with identifying info are they gonna turn him away?

You guys are too funny!  Got a "funny mental visual" of desperate ladies leaving their cars in the middle of the streets and sprinting to the RTC gates!  :-)

The whole key to PIR morning not being stressful is....BE EARLY!  For those driving, be in that car line by about 6 a.m. if possible.  Now, having said that, Sarge has told of some shortcuts to get there.  One that I was told is to not get in the "car line" on Buckley (far right lanes) but instead to go straight, right past RTC.  You can turn around in the train station which is right past it.  Then approach RTC from the opposite direction.  It apparently is easier to turn into the base that way since most are coming from the opposite direction.

For those who are really panicked  :-) , why not just take the hotel shuttle?  The shuttles bypass the car lines...yup, they do.  We were on the 6:30 one when up there and it worked out great.  You usually can sign up for these when you check in.  Remember, these are actually taxis operating as shuttles on PIR morning ($3/pp each way, sailor can return with you unless moving over to GL A School, which is done shortly after PIR is done).

All please keep Sarge's number handy for questions.  He is wonderful about helping with these.  You can text or call with questions at any time:

847 212 0246

His MeetandGreet is not over until 9, so if anyone can get there for just a few minutes, you can ask him your questions.  Remember, he also has his cab service to get people to/from PIR and around town, also to to/from the airports.

Good Morning All!
