~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

So glad to read that I wasn't the only one crying due to a phone call today.  LOL I think I actually cried the first 3 minutes of the phone call, and then that got him teary.  It was the most amazing call I think I have ever received. I know that probably sound obsurd. But, seriously... I have never been this far away from my kid, or not talked to him for this long of a period EVER. Prayers that we get more before the Holidays.  :-)

My SR said they were told they may be eligible to be adopted for Christmas. I don't know if that's true or not.

@mrrm4us. When I talked to my daughter today, she asked if we'd come up and adopt her for Christmas... I told her we heard her group isn't eligible, but she says they are and she'll send me info about it...I don't know if that is just something she's heard and hoping is true, or if they have different info than us. Either way I am looking forward to seeing her in January!
Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:47pm

No, mrm4us:  Unfortunately you cannot adopt your SRs from this group for Christmas.  I believe it is just the 12/28 and 01/04 PIR groups who can do this.  They usually pick the two most "senior" groups.

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:46pm

With 11 divisions in this group, that means that there were around 900 SRs in this PIR group starting out.  Some will be asmoed, some will be discharged, and others will replace some of these (those who were asmoed earlier but now are back to training will rejoin another PIR group such as this one).  They usually don't get all the way back up to the 88 SRs in each division, however.

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:43pm

brandonsmom:  No, no newspaper.  In fact, some divisions get in trouble for receiving articles from newspapers--other divisions are allowed articles.  So wait for him to clear what he wants you to send.  They can receive no care pkgs or anything at bootcamp.  They really cut them off from the outside world during bootcamp for a reason....sports scores are usually allowed, but they don't want too much outside world info given to the SRs because they want them focused on bootcamp!

Also, I don't think they are allowed to wear their own glasses....they are issued the glasses.  However, they can wear the contacts for PIR so I guess he has put them away for that.  Although...if he had no case???  Hmmm.....

Congrats on the letters and calls!  For those who haven't received any yet...your time is coming!

Not sure if the calls come in division order.  The calls are completely up to the RDCs in each division.  Some allow their division to call more often than others do.  My son was asmoed (setback) when there -- for a week -- his first division allowed a couple of phones calls before he was asmoed...but the next division he joined allowed just a couple.  So it just depends.  Please remember to take those phones with you to the bathroom (or have someone babysit it!) and to the mailbox.  In the past, ladies have missed calls during these times!

Yea! For phone calls and letters! I'll be keeping my phone super close hoping to get a call soon.
Mrrm4us- from what I've seen now our SRs are not eligible to be adopted for Christmas. It is only the two training groups following Christmas (12/28 and 1/11).
Comment by mrrm4us (ship 13/div 064 on December 12, 2012 at 8:43pm

Does anyone know if our SRs from this training group will be eligible for us to adopt our sailor for Christmas? I was considering making the trip up there if they are allowed a leave for that day.

Comment by D'sMomMary on December 12, 2012 at 8:41pm

It sounds like the SRs of Div 59 maybe did something big to earn the phone call, also cool for you all!

Comment by SouthCarolinaProud on December 12, 2012 at 8:22pm
Well Div: 059 is calling today for sure. :). Happy for all of you. Can't wait for my phone call soon.
