~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

There is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks after their arrival for Security Clearance info ( I see a couple of you have). I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! (My son asked for two more names of freinds aloing with their phone numebr and address).So... if your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information...800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's (the list goes on!), anyone that handles confidential info...have a list of references by the phone.

This is a short business call and is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.

The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!

Also, if you receive a call from your SR (at any time...not just the Security Call) and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble.

Boot Camp Days ~ How to Count them... Boot Camp is anywhere from 7.5 to 9 weeks (longer around Holiday time), actual weeks of time there.

This next part is all generic and based on an "ideal" scenario of 8 weeks.

"Week 1" is "P" Processing days...usually about 5 days could be longer.
"Weeks 2-7" are Training Weeks.
"Week 8" is the final week and PIR.
"Week 1" of P days are counted P1, P2, P3 etc. up to 5. After 5 I believe they then says "P" Hold.
"Weeks 2-7" - Days of Training (DOT) are counted W1D1...Week1 Day1...and so on on the Weeks up to 6 and the Days up to 5. W2D1 is Week2 Day1.
"Week 8" - Practice for PIR, getting ready to depart RTC and PIR.
Here is an exemplar based on a recruit whose W1D1 day starts on a Wednesday. (I'm not starting with P days since they can vary)
W - W1D1
Th - W1D2
F - W1D3
Saturday and Sunday do not count in the counting of "P" or DOT days.
M - W1D4
T - W1D5
W - W2D1
So, their Day 1 will always be on the same day... ...except if there is a Federal Holiday. Then, it would push forward a Day. So, the above SR has Day3 on Friday...let's say Monday is a Federal Holiday...it is treated like a Sunday. Now, Tuesday is their Day 4 instead of Monday...and you start counting from there again. Wednesday - Day5,  Thursday - Day1. Does your head hurt now?! Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.netLOL
When you write your recruit...ask them to write the actual date and the DOT next to it...

Make sure you keep your FORM LETTER in a safe place. You will need it for Confidential Password that is on it IF you plan on driving a vehicle onto RTC for PIR. It is only for this prupose...but it is a good idea for everyone to go ahead and have one with them at PIR (better safe than sorry).

Plus, it has a lot of good info from the CO and well, it's just a nice memento!

Here is some info on SHIP/DIVISIONS:

The SHIP number is the number of the Barracks the Recruits are housed in. The Ships at RTC are all named after real Naval Vessels. 14 is the USS Arizona. I hear that they have artifacts of the one from Pearl Harbor on the Quarterdeck (explains the term).

There are 14 different SHIPS on RTC. Each one can hold about 12 Divisions.

DIV is Division. The Division Number is the number for the Division your SR (Seaman Recruit) is in. Divisions have 88+ recruits to start with. They may lose some along the way due to illness or injury or other setbacks and gain some who are being recycled back into a Division. Most graduate with at least 75 + recruits.

Regular numbered Divisions go in Consecutive order starting with 001 at the beginning of the Military Fiscal Year (Oct 1). Regular Divisions are paired up in "Brother" divisions. They will train together and go through Battlestations together.

800's start with 801 at the beginning of the Fiscal Year and continue on consecutively when they have them. They do not have an 800 Division every PIR. 800 Divisions are for those with SPECOP (SPECial OPerations) contracts. If there is more than one then they will be Brother Divisions.

900's start with 901 at the beginning of the Fiscal Year and continue consecutively each TG/PIR (Training Group/Pass-in-Review=Graduation).900's are the "performance" division.

There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community--that happens mainly for the Triple Threat though.

Triple Threat is comprised of those who are on that weeks' Jr. Rifle Drill team and all those who were chosen for their musical abilities. The Blue Jacket Choir performs the National Anthem, Anchors Aweigh, and anything else they've been tasked with. The band plays at various times throughout the ceremony. The Drum Corps also marches and helps everyone else stay in step and keep time.

There is almost always a 900 Division every PIR. Last year they did not have one for the April 1, 2011 PIR. (Was that an April Fools?!) Sometimes there can be two or even three if RTC skips a week of PIR. One of them will usually reflect the TG number. If there is more than one then they will be Brother Divisions

Got the box on Wednesday....still no form letter.  We were hoping that we would get it today since a few have said their son/daughter left on the 20th and they have received theirs.  Recruiter gave us information Monday for Ship 13 Div 067.  Kind of bummed waiting for the official letter...it's our link to our boy.  We have already started sending letters.
