~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hi ladies,
Sorry didn't make it to the meet and greet the PIR was great...I was soo happy to see my new sailor. It was a blessing that he's going to A school in GL.. We got thw chance to spend time with him each day.. However, I didn't want to take him back today.. At least we'll get to talk more now..

diannep, it wasnt a bad thing. The roads were kind of slick and I think a lot of people signed up at the meet and greet knowing the roads were going to be bad. We had planned on driving to begin with but got a bit nervous thinking we would not go to the right gate and such. It was so easy to find!!

I did want to add, it was very informative with Sarge.  He told us exactly where to go to pick him up later and gave great directions.  And on our ride to PIR, when that truck came sliding up along side of his and ended up on the sidewalk, we felt a lot better being in one of his vans instead of our car.

I think I agree with tchon on the shuttle.  We ended up waiting for it.  It was snowing really good at that time in the morning.  I think we would have been better off driving in.  I think we got there the same time you did and you may have left a little before me.  I also dont think they had to walk as far I as we did in the snow!  I believe they were the smarter ones that day!!! I think my husband was more afraid of the inexperience drivers then he was on any waiting in lines.

Comment by diannep on January 27, 2013 at 11:17am

tchon:  So sorry you had that shuttle experience!  Never had heard of them being that late.  But guessing the weather had alot to do with it.  Sounds like your day went wonderfully well!  And...what his friend said?  SO TRUE!  They really DO look out for each other.  There is quite a bond that they form!

Our PIR experience...It was great. We were going to take a shuttle (decided at meet and greet) since the roads were not too great. We signed up for a 6 15 shuttle and around 6 40 we were still waiting and had a ton of people in front of us too. We dusted the snow off the car and drove over. At that time, there was no line of cars to get in. We drove right in and parked. The walk was not bad as most of it was inside. We sat at the top of the bleachers and had a great view! It was amazing. We asked our SA what he wanted to do and he just wanted to go back to the hotel and chill. He enjoyed talking to us. Spent some time at the airport with him and got to meet some of his SA friends. One warmed my heart when we were leaving and he said dont worry Mrs H, I will look out for him.

Same here KathyShip. we just got back home. Didnt go to airport cause my son had an early flight out too but so totally enjoyed our few hours with him. Got to talk with him on fb chat so that is a definate plus. So hard saying goodbye again so soon but he has to get his schooling done too. The ceremony was totally awesome and I think I sat with tears just about the whole time I watched it because of all it represented. So now we begin a new phase and I wish all the moms and loved ones from this group the best of the best for them and their sailors. God bless yall and thanks to the vets on here that helped us through this!!

Hi all,

Got to admit that I have been on an emotional roller coaster the past 24 hrs.   The ceremony was great.  Loved it.  My son was quite pale and thin from when he left.  We had a good 6 hrs with him and really all he wanted to do was eat and have phone / computer access and talk with us.  He was very anxious to get back to base by 7:00 PM.   So if felt short.

He was one of the unfortunate San Antonio Sailors whose flight was a 5:30 AM this morning.  We were one of a handful of parents that showed up. and watched them process and check in baggage.  That took from about 1:30 to 5:00 AM and quite chaotic.  They were just heading towards security a little before 5:00 for a 5:30 flight so we said our good byes before security and off he went.

I have to say it was just as hard saying goodbye the second time as it was the first time.  While I have to feel good about the fact that he really is enjoying himself, enjoys his fellow Sailors,  has a sense of pride and commitment and purpose, he was changed and I longed for him to just come home again with us.  I know that is the empty nest and my own deal now.    Just woke up (noon) still in GL and am headed out for a run for me.  Woke up to a text from him letting me know that he is safely in San Antonio and thanking us for coming to graduation......Going to be a long sad trip again for me back to Oregon tomorrow.

Wonderful to meet Shannon and Rae in person..... Onward we go.... Got lots of pics for memories.  Kathy
