Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on January 8, 2013 at 9:37am: I should add that 075/076 are last in the training schedule. Most of the divisions have already completed training week #4 and 075/076 is at the end of it now.

Comment by diannep on January 8, 2013 at 9:35am: Yep, judging by Lovely Navy Lady's post below, sounds like training week 4 (Hell Week!) to me! This is a turning point for them too, though. They start feeling so much more positive about themselves and you will see that in the tone of their letters/phone calls. So it is a difficult week for them...but a good one!

Just to add to her info re: post-PIR visits with your sailors. For those who will be flying out, remember that they are bussed to the airports (Midway and OHare) in the wee hours the next morning. You are welcome to meet them at the airports. Some will want to get there before the busses arrive...others may plan to "meet up" with their sailors in the USO (OHare) or before security (Midway since USO is past security). You can then get a gate pass from the airlines and go through security to wait with your sailor at the gate until departure time. Be sure to have ID with you for this airlines gate pass!

Usually when they announce that the sailors can board now, the other passengers in the gate area will give them a standing ovation!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 7, 2013 at 9:51pm: I know exactly how you feel SRmomship911, It was definitely a day with more hugs, an extra 5 min at recess, and lots or praise. Those things was always a part of who I am before but even more so now. It seemed like every room I went in I was more aware of doors, windows, exits and safe areas. It was really different than what we were used to before when we left the hall doors open and had no fears and now doors are always locked. It is just so sad that our teachers and children have to have fear in their schools :(

Comment by Mommahead on January 7, 2013 at 9:03pm: I teach first grade and we have our kiddos back tomorrow. Sandy Hook gave me a different lense to look through. In the midst of all that is being pushed on teachers...I am reminded to be kind and thoughtful to each of my kiddos.
