For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I know it's hard with your recruits away at boot camp but I hope you are enjoying the holidays and spending some time with other family members. One thing I am sure of, your recruits would want you to be happy and celebrate this time with your family. Take lots of pics so you can share them with your recruit. Maybe even make a "Flat Stanley" of your recruit and have him in some Christmas pictures. Then send one to your soon to be Sailors. I bet they would love it :) In case you don't know what a flat Stanley is here is a description :) Enjoy, have fun, and God Bless you all <3

Flat Stanley can be a boy or you could make it a girl. You draw it and decorate it however you like. Then he/she goes on an adventure. You could take him shopping, to the park, to dinner, to visit all your family and friends for Christmas, even have him/her at the Christmas dinner or wrapping or opening a present. Take pics and then send a couple of the best ones to your recruit. My niece was doing this as a school project when my daughter was joining the Navy. She mailed Flat Stanley to us and we took him to the going away party and to MEPS and he joined the Navy as well lol. Then we made him a Sailor outfit and mailed him back to the school. It was a lot of fun taking all the pics and writing about his adventure in boot camp :) There have been several moms on this site who did this and then took flat Stanley to the Meet and Greet and PIR. It was a lot of fun to see all the pics and their Sailors really got a kick out of it. Anything to make them laugh or put a smile on their face and to put a smile on your face as well. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} Merry Christmas

Comment by tchon6891 on December 24, 2012 at 8:20am: Puppy update: This is my daughters puppy, 9 months old and already had a rough start in life with colds, 3 hernias, mange, dew claws growing back. I worked at a pet store so she spent a lot of time at my house recovering from everything. When she was 5 months old I talked the owner into giving her to my daughter since she needed another surgery still and would be 7 month old before we could try and sell her. He did. She has been happy and loved. Well, she stopped using one of her back legs Sat night. Turns out she has a type of birth defect in BOTH her back legs. The bone (Femor) is dead at the hip joint. Her one leg is fractured all the way through and other is half way through. Surgery to remove neck of femor and hip ball will be set for some time this week on the worst leg, then hopefully the other leg can hold out while she recovers and then do that one. Poor pug pup!

On tomorrow being declared a federal holiday now....it is possible that it will be a hold day now for them. They normally don't have regular training on federal holidays. Don't worry...they will still get everything done in time for PIR!

Dm: ellen's son is actually a SAILOR now! Her days when he was an SR are why she is able to help as a N4Moms veteran on this site! I agree with you....what a wonderful surprise he pulled on her! YAH!

Yes, ellen, on the vibrating bra syndrome! It is probably a good idea for the ladies putting their phones in their bras to let those around them know that when they make a "grab" for that phone in the bra, they aren't crazy...they may have a very important SR calling and nothing will keep them from that call! :-)

I will then bring it to graduation with me so he knows we thought about him on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I might even bring it to his old work and get them to leave him a message
