~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good evening moms! I just received my son's graduation date and so excited to see him even though it is so far away. James is on Ship 14 Div 075.
Phabion's Mom, Since your son is staying ing GL for school, after PIR on Friday your son will have about an hour with you before he has to report back to his ship on the RTC side (usually about 12pm) to pack up his things and be bussed over to the TSC side to check in.
This process can take several hours, and he will call you when he is ready to leave again, that call could come anytime from about 2pm to 5pm. Be sure to have your phone handy and be aware the call may come from an area code other than 847, sometimes the sailors that are there on his ship lend their cell phones to the newbies to make that call. He will have to report back to his ship sometime between 8pm and 10pm.
On Sat and Sunday he can usually leave sometime between 6am and 9am and do not need to be back until that evening, again sometime between 8pm and 10pm. They cannot be late when returning so plan on returning him at least a half an hour earlier than his time due back. If he is late they can take the rest of his liberty time away from him.
You will have to check him out and back into his ship each day. He will meet you at the gate in the morning and then you must go back with him to his ship. Keep your gate pass as you may be able to use that to drive him back (he must be with you to do so). If you cannot drive him to his ship to check him out and in you must make the walk with him to do so. It is quite the distance from the gate to the ships so be prepared, wear comfortable shoes and dress warm. It must be the same person who checks him out that checks him back in at night (this can differ, but don't take a chance on that, better safe then sorry).
The time he has with you can be interrupted with duty during the weekend, but he will know if that is the case when he checks into TSC.
Phabion'sMom: You are very blessed that he will stay at GL in the fact that you get daytime liberty with him through the weekend! The GL A School students move over there after PIR...it takes a 2-3 hours usually. If they don't have a "watch" right away, they will then call for pickup at the A School base to start their liberty. They have to be back each night, but usually not until 9 or 10 pm. You can pick them up in the morning usually at 6 a.m. from what I have heard. Your sailor will have all of this info when liberty starts.
I booked rooms at the Navy Lodge and plan to leave on Sunday. Looking forward to meeting you all!
How did everyone find out when their son or daughter is leaving for "A" school? I must be out of the loop on this. I know that my son will be heading to San Antonio, Texas for MAA training.
Hi Ladies, my son will stay in Great Lakes for A-school. Can anyone tell me how much time we will get to spend with him?
Thanks
Thanks Dana and Dianne! I was thinking the same thing. I am pretty sure my sone will be going to Pensacola as well. He is going for Aviation Electronics Technician.
MaryEllen: If at all possible, we recommend that all stay until Sunday just in case flight schedules change for your SRs and you get more time with them.
