Haaaa!  I noticed that, Betsy!  Funny...I have been gone since early this morning with my parents...just got back...heading out to walk in a minute!

JudyAnn:  My nephew works for Microsoft and lives in Seattle (S. FL boy!).  He loves it there...lives right in the city.  Has been there now for 5.5 years.  Haven't been to Seattle myself since I was a young girl (which was when dinosaurs roamed the earth...  :-) ) when the World's Fair was there.  Well, actually, did spend night there back in 2000 on our way to a extended family celebration Alaskan cruise.

Hmmm....on the box....there's gotta be a way to open it, snoop around, cry, sniff, etc...and then seal it back as if....nothing happened!  I mean...after all...we are MOMS, right?  And if you are a "mom" my age, I can plead the "well, I just forgot you said not to open it" line...since I'm older!  HA!    I say.....GO FOR IT!    "Phone picture" the items inside (but of course they could "shift" during transit so what the heck?  Not your fault!  HA!).  Of course, use gloves...you never know...she may search for fingerprints!  :-)

Hmmmm....on the coming home between RTC and A School.  How long ago did your friend do that?  Don't hear about them being able to do that anymore...at least, not on here.  Unless it is for holidays and their base is on stand down. They will get travel arrangements usually the last week they are there.  Most likely, she will fly out the day after PIR...bussed out there in the wee hours of Sat. morning to wait for flights...you can meet her there and wait with her...UNLESS she is on a charter flight (which means....you can't see her....so pray for domestic).  Plan to fly back yourself on Sunday if possible...just in case she is there longer!

Have a great day!

JudyAnn, wow you do have that very well planned out in your head.  LOL  I would be tempted to open the box too.  I admire your SR because she knows the emotions that come and she is trying to spare you that.  What a sweet girl you have there, mom.

As far as her time frame for going to A school in Pensacola, she will probably ship out sometime on Saturday morning to Pensacola.  She will be given that information when it gets closer to her PIR date.  I'm so sorry to have to be the bearer of this news, because I do know that's not easy to hear.  But unfortunately, they do not keep them around long after PIR and they are not allowed leave after PIR.  Your family friend must have had an SR who graduated during the holiday stand down, as that is an exception to the norm.

Enjoy your holiday preparations.  I envy you, as I'm not crafty at all.

Morning All...

It is 'brisk' here in the Seattle area today... we have beautiful days with blue skies and heavy frosts that are staying around in the shadows all day.  Highly unusual for us as this time of year is typically 'Mud Season' with rains from Oct through April.  Got my eye on Idaho in 2 years when daughter #3 graduates from high school.  I saw someone in this group was from ID... Speak up!  I'll be lookin for cattle/horse property :-)

Just had a flash of the contrast between seeing SR daughter in her Navy attire and the jeans, boots, Carhart and camo that she was typically seen in!!  Guess the camo part might still be the same just a different color.

So... I've realized that every time I pass my SR's room, I am captured by "the box" and end up contemplating it for a few moments at least.  You may remember that I'm the one with the daughter who writes "Mom, Don't Open Please" on the outside of 'the box' effectively depriving me of any satisfaction from fondling her last civilian effects.  Even during the 3 phone calls I've been so fortunate to receive from her, when I brought up the issue, I get no mileage...she says "There's nothing in there you need"  hmphf!  So after reading through the responses posted on here... I'm pondering a new angle.  There might not be anything in there that I 'need'... but there are obviously items that need to be addressed... specifically Cleaned!  Right?!  Before the box begins to smell and becomes surrounded by a dingy cloud... huh?  Sounds good anyway.  So... the get even element is beginning to factor into my plan.  You all know by now that those boxes were sealed with clear packing tape, of which I just happen to have a roll of my own handy,.. somewhere... handy. So... I'm thinkin... I use a paring knife, slice open the taped seams, ravage the contents to my hearts content - taking special note of how the items are placed inside...of course... then wash and oh-so-lovingly fold her clothes, replace everything back in 'the box' as close to its original position as possible,...and since she does want her cell phone at PIR, I will need to extract that too, (or maybe not..hehe..tell her I can follow orders too) and re-tape the seams.  Leave no trace, except for the clean clothes :-)  This might be fun if I knew for sure that she'd be coming home before A-School, which doesn't sound likely, in which case the only fun is in my contemplation.  I figure I've got a couple more days to decide before mold begins to grow.

Re A-School... we are relatively sure that her A-School is in Pensacola, FL.  Any idea on exactly when SR's find out about their travel schedule and A-School dates?  Close family friend had 2 weeks between RTC and her A-School which was in Miss. so she came home for a few days.

I'm starting to realize that, as much as I'll miss her not being here for Christmas, this timing might be a God-send.  With all the extra holiday stuff that has to get done being busy is a nice diversion!  I think these two months will go perty quick.  M2M... aren't you the quilter?  I have 3 king size tops cut out that are read to be pieced now.  Thinkin that will get to be January's project :-)  I like having a quilt to work on over my lap during the winter months...the extra layer of warmth is good and it keeps my hands from feeding my face :-)  And around here, the ranch always has chores to do or something needing fixin although I'm really hoping all the fixin part is done now as its miserable to have to do in the rain.  I've got most of the other winter chores set up to be done under cover and outa the wet and mud.  Hate mud.

Wondering what keeps everyone else busy?

Good morning everyone, I hope you all are staying warm and having a good week and of course writing lots of letters :-)

Comment by diannep on December 6, 2011 at 9:42am

Hey!  Is that by chance your SR's name as your screen name?  If so, please change it.  We can't have last names on here.  If it isn't, no worries!

And, you may want to start a discussion above for Div 050 so others can join you! Just be sure to stay on this board too...because lots of info is dispensed here.  But the discussion groups are a great place to get to know others with SRs in the same place.
