Ok, Betsy. Here's a little secret that I did one year as a joke on my hubby. I bought a nightshirt that I wanted (I'm all about comfort at bedtime!). Wrapped it up, put it under the tree, and put from my hubby on it. Now, he was always wonderful about Christmas/birthday shopping...would always take the boys and say: Need to go shopping for mommy's present. Even when they were teenagers (he died when they were 15/17). But just thought I would see if I could get away with this (knowing full well I couldn't!).
So this particular yr, I opened it and said, "Ohhhhh....thanks, Johnny! That is really cute." He looked a bit confused and then said, "I didn't buy that for you...and you know it!" HA! We had a good laugh over that one! So just a hint... :-)
re: warmth. If it's the same, and I suspect this part is: they dictate what you wear, on what day. If they say pea coat and gloves... it's pea coat and gloves. I was before cammies, so I don't know what they wear with that-- but you understand. They tell your kid to wear a coat-- your kid wears a coat. LOL
I gained weight in bootcamp, even tho the CC took my desert away and gave it away to this super skinny girl. :) And they kept us warm, too.
I still haven't gotten the letter, got a little weepy over it this morning, but I'm holding up pretty well. I'm working on quilting a blue star, and I'm a member of the blue star mothers group locally, so that helps some. Plus 9 other needy kids is a distraction-- except they most still have SRs pic as they're profile pic on FB and it makes my heart skip. enjoy your day, ladies.
PROUD MOM, it's nice to meet you! Wonderful that our guys are watching out for one another. I'm sure it is going to blow their minds when they realize the friendships we moms have made. Like you, I received a short note saying he loved and missed us and could not wait until he could call (me either...lol). Yes that short note was comforting. Looking forward!
JudyAnn, you hit the jacket with that phone call. When my son was in BC I never got that much info in one call. :) I loved the line where you said the girls were washing out their undies, because like you suggested, I could bet that most of the boys either don't care or that thought never even crossed their minds. Their tidy whities are probably standing on their own by now. lol
Lala, Yippee! Did you get my check yet? I mailed it last week. I can't wait to get my cover and purse. I told my husband that I ordered them and he said, "Oh, cool, can I wrap them up and put them under the tree for you, from me? Of course, I told him
SC Navy Mom I am in NC so we are not too far apart :-)
Good morning all! JudyAnn, good for you! Thanks for sharing the info. It's great knowing where they are at this stage. Lala, like you I cry at commercials...lol. That is one of the things my SR and his sister give me a good ribbing about. Wishing all a wonderful day and remember we are one day closer to PIR.
Good morning everyone, I won't be on here a lot today. I am on a mission today to find supplies for the PIR ribbons. I already have people in this group asking for info on the ribbons and wanting to know how to order. You guys are not wasting any time lol and that should help this journey seem to pass faster. Or at least I hope it does :-) So I am off to find supplies, it seems the stars are always the hardest to find and some of the online stores are wacked with their prices lol beside I am always looking for a reason to shop lol. I also have to go to the fabric stores and get more fabric for the new Navy tote bags and Kindle/E-Reader covers that are a huge hit :-) I hope you all have a wonderfully fantastic Monday :-) I will be back this afternoon.
Wow Judy, that is awesome and you have an amazing memory lol. It is wonderful that they have figured out this early that doing well gives them reward calls :-) I know you and your family are feeling very blessed. I know it brought tears to my eyes when I read about her calling her sister at school. I have always been an emotional person but never has much as I have been since my baby girl joined the Navy. I see commercials and my eyes fill with tears lol and she has been in over a year and I talk to her daily. So I don't think that is ever going to go away. There is just something about having a child in the military that makes you "get it" when someone says something about missing their "hero". I must say I have never heard of them getting an information call and being allowed to talk more than minute or two and that is usually with someone standing over them. So, you are very fortunate :-)
As for the phone calls, the calls can come from several different area codes including 847 or pay phone, or unknown caller, so while they are at bootcamp we suggest you answer every call coming in.
The drinking water thing apparently is standard for bootcamps. My nephew is in firefighter bootcamp and they have to do the same thing. I am a huge water drinker and a believer in that as a healthy way of life anyway, so it is a good habit to get into !
