AnitaT - Prayers for your son...it is an adjustment...all plans have changed. I pray that he gets on another road soon...best thing for him. I am glad his dad will be there for him when he goes to PIR...it will be hard but I also hope it will be very memorable. Safe travels home for him too!
I just posted a questionnaire in the discussions above. This is one I made for my Sailor and I added a very encouraging paragraph to it that helps them understand and get ready for battle stations. I wanted to share it with all of you. All you have to do is copy and paste it and print it out. You may have to tweak it a little bit since my Sailor is a girl :-) I hope you all like it. It is funny too so it will make your soon to be Sailor smile :-) Enjoy, Lala
Morning!
I've been reading the 'swearing in' comments. In our experience, there were multiple swearing in events. They swore her upon the signing of her contract, and at some other event on base, then the navy did an exhibition at the Seattle Mariners game where they took the area DEP'rs onto the field and did a swearing in ceremony just before the game started... participants got a free day at the game! Then they did the same thing at a Silvertips hockey game a month before my SR left. I got to see that one... gotta say the Navy does put out an impressive display, makes me catch my patriotic breath! and to see my child in the middle of something so great!! The last swearing in was the morning she left for BC. There had been so many and that one was so early in the morning that with other kids to get to school I opted out, but her grandfather posted a video on her FB page.
Mindy... In a recent letter my SR informed me that there is a Cheese Cake Factory in the area... kind of a favorite chain of the family's. Haven't had a bad meal at any of them. She didn't say exactly where though sorry.
Navywife... my heart goes out to you. I know what it feels like to have to go through important things alone. God obviously knows you can handle it...stand in your power and show the world your ovaries! :-)
Our sons recruiter kept telling him to tell us that it is hurry up and wait process and the probably don't want to wait for all of that...needless to say I think the recruiter was trying to get us NOT to go. We dropped him off at the recruiters office and he took him to the hotel the night before...we were not allowed to take him. We did go to the swearing in and yes it was a hurry up and wait sort of thing. I believe which ever way it occurred for our SR it was done to help prepare the SR and the family for their new way of life.
I'm really close to my son, and I wasn't at Swear In. I would have liked to, but with my work schedule it just didn't pan out. I also think it was something he wanted to do on his own. He kept me in the loop on everything else.. I know his recruiter real well and he even made an effort to come to my son's baseball games. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and in 21 short days, we will be watching our Sailors march through those doors:)
Thank you :) yes i firmly believe God will not give us anything we can not handle, i just got to keep telling myself that, its a new day and one more day closer to PIR :) i appreciate the kind words everyone! i hope all of you have a amazing day!
