Ditto what CoMom said, navywife. Wow...time to claim the verse that the Lord will not give us more than we can handle during times like this...because it is so hard at times! Lots of prayers for you and hugs...
Good Morning all!

SOFA'SMOM: we'll be depending on the bus and train, as well. Maybe we'll see each other! lol
I did go to the recruiter with my son the first time and we did discuss military life-- compared what he was hearing with my experience... but he swore in alone, we took him to dinner the night before he shipped and dropped him off at the hotel. We went in, kissed him in the lobby and left. I did feel guilty-- because I felt we kind of were stand off-ish. He's 19. But I felt it was right, and although he wasn't ADAMANT, it was what he said he wanted. --
After saying goodbye to all his siblings and taking pictures we got halfway to CLE and realized he forgot his promotion to E2 paper... so instead of goodbye-ing all over, I dropped him off at the corner near our house and I drove back and got it so he wouldn't have to go thru the whole emotional thing again! LOL
I've been offline, I missed you guys. :) planning my trip-- any of you guys taking the train?
Mindy...I do appreciate the thought. I know it will get it together.
ATTENTION!!
Someone posted that they would not be able to attend PIR and wanted to send their Sailor something. I haven't had a chance to look through all the posts (7 PIR groups worth) so I am posting this to try and find you! (I will still look later!)

Yep, PatricksMom. You sure aren't alone! It was hard for me because I had been so involved in my son's life up to just about that time...much TOO involved, but being the mother of a class clown is not an easy mission! This child exhausted me...especially after my hubby died when he was 15 and it was now all up to me....sigh....but I think him living away for a little over 1.5 yrs (even though close enough to get home every now and then and for me to visit for a day)...helped him to want to start buckling down more.
So, I had mixed feelings when he didn't want me involved in the Navy process...part of me shouted YAH, and the other part was like AWWWW....he was very blessed to have a good recruiter who was honest with him...and gave him everything he had promised. My son/I knew nothing about that beforehand--how sometimes they aren't like that. We felt very blessed!
Ladies, I can't tell you how comforting this latest discussion is to me. My son did EVERYTHING on his own. Never met his recruiter, didn't witness his swearing in, or his leaving with his recruiter. I thought I was the only one. My son had just turned 21 and his father and I were/are extremely proud of him for making this positive decision about his life, but I know definitely felt left out of things before he left. Soooooo glad he WANTS us at PIR!!! It would take nothing short of a raging bull to keep me away!!!
My son didn't want us at his swearing in either. I never met his recruiter and he made us say goodbye on the street out front of the office. We spent time with him the night before he left but he didn't let us come inside the hotel either. He is a little older as well and I agree that it must have something to do with being independent. It was difficult to respect his wishes but we did it and he appreciates us for it.
