Hi Ladies, What a game today, Huh?  I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

I have been MIA for a couple of days, we had a death in my sister in law's family (whom I'm very close too) and then my youngest daughter flew back from college last night.  Woohoo!  But she arrived with a broken laptop and guess who has a final's paper due on Tuesday and hadn't started it yet?  lol  So, mom's laptop has been confiscated for a couple of days.  After this coming Tuesday, I should be on here regularly again, but I have to defer the use of my computer to my baby girl for now.  Luckily, my husband and I had already ordered her a new one for Christmas, but it hasn't arrived yet.

It's midnight now, and this is the first chance I've had to use my laptop today.

I definitely believe the holiday mail impacts delivery time. The ribbons I mail for everyone to wear to PIR are taking a couple days more than normal to get where they are going and I send all of them Priority mail. So I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the letters take a couple extra days to arrive.

Some of the hotels there put the room in your Sailors name to give you the military or PIR rate. I know Navy Lodge does that and some of the others as well. I would try to get a different person and did you call that hotel direct? If you called an 800 number then you get someone in some other place just booking reservations.

Ladies, please start divisional discussions up in the discussion forum area. One per division please. It is best not to make a group separate from the main PIR group as then moms and veteran moms have to divide their time more.
Comment by diannep on December 10, 2011 at 8:24pm

CoMom:  AAA rate is $80/night.  Regular rate is $89/night. You aren't asking for the gov/military rate...you are asking for the PIR rate.  Sounds like that agent you spoke with just didn't know.  I would try at another time.

Well, it should be like a Sunday.  I would think their Christmas meal will be served on Christmas Day.  But if they observe holiday on Monday, they would have down time to write and rest...i.e., it wouldn't be a training day.

This would be a good questions for RTC FB if anyone is on there:  Will the SRs have holiday procedure on the Mondays after Christmas and New Years Day.  Please post on here what they say.

Yes, I agree, sofasmom:  I'm sure she is very grateful for how you prepared her for this!  Glad she is doing well!

Call back on a different shift, CoMom, (their shifts are from 7 am - 3 pm; 3 pm - 11 pm).  Try to get another person. Ask if they have a PIR rate.  Do you have AAA?  We used that rate and it was decent at Residence Inn.  Sometimes they have a limited number of rooms offered at the PIR rate.

I will keep an eye on the airfare for Milwak instead of Chicago.  I am hoping to find something affordable.  I am also hoping to only need a rental car for a couple days. I am not sure if I can do it for 4 days.

I was so excited to get her letter.  I was happy to hear that she is finding this easy.  I have to say living with me as a single military mother, it really prepared her for some of these things.

Ok, so I called Springhill Suites to make reservations.  I was told by other moms that they got a $79/night Navy Graduation rate.  The lady on the phone said there was no discount unless WE are active military.

I am going about this wrong or should I wait and talk to a different person?
