You know... I'm really puzzled... I had taken to heart the expected lack of communication with maybe the occasional letter during bootcamp as represented by veteran military moms only to be shocked amazed and very surprised by all the phone calls my SR daughter is able to make home.. and it turns out not to just me!  Every time she gets her hands on a phone she calls me, her sister, her dad and at least one friend!!  I thought my phone call this morning was short because she was finally being monitored, but then found out that she called her sister after she hung up with me and told Jeckle she was going to call a friend next and even than had to call sister back to get friends number!!  I'm certainly not looking a gift horse in the mouth, in fact after every call I expected it to be the last for a long time but then, here comes another one!  I don't know what this kid is doing to get such privileges.. and I certainly hope I don't sound like I'm bragging... but whatever fairy dust she is putting in RDC's eyes, bless her heart and keep it comin!!  She did tell me this morning that she had to take a beat down for taking too long on the last call and tried to make that my fault but I already knew she'd called two other people besides me!  She said her beat down was nothin, some jumping jacks... so now I'm wondering if she is pushing her limits with the phone calls and just taking her lumps as they come knowing she can handle it.  Dunno... this child has always had the gift of charm on her side.  Anyone ever heard of such frequent and lengthy phone privileges for SR's?

I just remembered something else... my SR daughter said this morning that they had gotten their camo's so now they can wash the sweats they've been living in!!  :-)

ahhhhh  no letter yet.   But I did send a pile of letters from his siblings (and me).  I started crying over the Corpsmans Christmas Poem sent to me by my step daughter, who is a USMC wife. ...  but I'll make it. My 8yo (homeschooled) and I made the paper chain today...  49 links.  His 21 year old sister and 18 year old brother seem to be most affected by his absence.   Been planning what I"m going to do to acknowlege him Christmas morning.  Was going to wait to buy presents, but am thinking it would be better for the kids if there were presents for him under the tree... and then if we send him pics from Christmas, he'll see that he wasnt left out....I don't know?   Any opinions?

Laurie, you and I are in the same boat with our daughters...no pun intended :-)  My daughter is a Jr in HS.  She and her brother are super close.  We must not forget the siblings of our SR's.  This is a tough time for them also, especially with the holidays.  Here's looking forward to a Mother/Daughter holiday!!!

I ordered my ribbons yesterday and put a check in the mail after work. I cannot wait to see them. I got one for my daughter too. She will be so excited to wear it for her brother. She is having a bit of difficulty this season with him gone. She is stuck with just me for the holidays...lol

I am so happy that some have recieved letters!!! Maybe I will get one today, my phone call is long gone.  Today has been a rough day for me, I did not realize that it was possible to miss someone this much. I am counting down the days until Chicago, but I think I also realize that this may be a short time apart compared to some that I will face.  Still proud and trying hard to be strong.

Morning! We got a letter yesterday. Guess I shouldn't say 'We' as it was to sister Jeckle...and she refused to share, brat. I told her thats just okay because I'd gotten more phone calls from SR than she has :-) And just a few minutes ago SR CALLED ME AGAIN! By the time she gets my letter shes going to have heard all the news in it and answered all my questions! This one was shorter looking for more security info...but just the same goes along way to close the distance gap. I did get that today is actually 1/5. She said they did their baseline PT test, she passed her sit up and push up requirements and missed her run by 15 seconds. She felt it was the first 2 weeks at RTC with no PT that did her in and that she will get her time back no problem. Atta Girl!

So after Jeckle went to bed last night I decided on a little secret mission to get my eyeballs on that letter. It wasn't to hard...Jeckle sleeps like the dead so I could have made as much noise as a marching band and not given myself away. Most of its contents I knew already. She was telling her sister she had to shower with 87 other girls and had gotten over any associated phobias but still thought that more than one naked girl in a shower was "icky" lol. Also got a little more insight to the 'brother' Div situation...47 & 48 girls bunk together on one side of the hall and 47 & 48 boys are together on the other side of the hall.

So...I conquered 'the box'. Figured the likelyhood that she would ever know was slim and that she would eventually tell me to get in there to get her cell anyway. I dont know why she didnt want me to open it in the first place...there was absolutely nothing in it that I didn't expect to find. Just messin with my head. My girls are evil :-) So her clothes are now washed and back in the box on a shelf in her closet and I figure I get to do something fun now, like redesign her room - for her for when she visits, of course. That might mess her dog up mote thsn anything though. We let him in at night and he goes straight to her room. Jeckle went to get him the other night so he could sleep with her dog in her room and he ran into the closet and groweled at her! Lol! He was not leaving his room I guess :-)

Love reading all the posts on here! Totally jealous that reservations are being made. I wont be able to make mine until probably the 2nd week of Jan...hope there are rooms left!
