Mindy, I am not sure what I am doing with my dog yet. I too hate leaving him behind. He is such a Momma's boy that he does not do well with being boarded. I am thinking about asking a friend to come and dogsit and praying the weather holds up so she can.
Oh, and I was excited to hear about Lala and her beautiful ribbons. I just ordered one for me and one for my daughter. I will probably wear mine all of the time, but cannot wait till he sees it. I am sure he will probably laugh at me or just say "cool Mom!". lol
Betsy, Pearl Harbor was beautiful and so amazing. I was able to stay on the Navy base with a friend. Her husband is stationed there so we also got to take a tour of a sub. Pretty neat!!
I am not sure about anyone els, but I plan to wear jeans and a nice sweater or as many layers as possible to stay warm. I put some pics of Pearl Harbor on my fb page for today also.
Diannep, No, it was at the Marriott. We are 3 miles out. I think they went ahead and booked a room elsewhere.
At the Springhill Marriott for the 1/25 and 1/26 I got the govt/military rate of $130 and then for 1/27 and 1/28 the navy graduation rate of $79 was available. Big difference in rates but when you average it, not so bad. It does include hot breakfast and for $6.00 per person you can take roundtrip shuttle to PIR and not deal with the lines getting on base.
Sounds like a plan, NavyMom. Glad that you are all set!
Laurie: That is exactly why we tell you all to book early directly with the hotel...cancellation policies are liberal with them. That seems a bit of a stiff jump in price though.
This wasn't the Residence Inn, was it? Because they have studios and 2 bedroom suites...and there is a big difference in price between the two. Could it be that you all rented a studio and they tried to rent a 2 bedroom?
ok. I am all set. I booked my flight into Milwaukee for Wednesday and fly out Sunday with tickets that can be changed with no fee. I booked my hotel at Springhill Suites By Marriott and rented a car. I am all set now I just have to wait 50 days until graduation. I just went and checked the mail since I read that most people get mail on Wednesday's because they write on Sundays and mail them on Mondays but no letter, maybe tomorrow. Has anyone gotten a real letter yet (not the form letter)?
Cold and probably windy! That wind off the lake can go right through you on your walk to the hall, so bundle up. It will be comfortable in the drill hall so have on layers that you can shed!
Welcome, Jones! By the way, is that your SR's last name? If so, you will need to change your screen name. No SRs last names allowed on here. If not, no problems! You will get great comraderie and lots of info here so stay in touch!
Laurie, isn't Pearl Harbor just amazing? It's just so humbling. I was there in Sept, as my daughter's bf is stationed there and I went out to visit them. My youngest son also put that as his 2nd choice on his "dream sheet" and I'm hoping he will actually get stationed there.
Mindy, I agree with Proud Mom, dress for extreme cold.
