My son is ship 07 div 052 and I just want to say that this website has been a Godsend! I can't thank you all enough for the advice and for making me feel like I'm not going crazy for being so emotional. It really does help to know that you all are going through this with me!

Oh, I had the opportunity to go to Hawaii and tour Pearl Harbor in July. Oh my, what an awesome experience. I cannot wait to go again. I have a lot of pics I should try to put on facebook for today. It is a bittersweet day for my family also. My brother Steve would have been 55 today. He passed away On Aug 21st. My son had the privilege of being a pall bearer for him and I was so proud of how he handled himself throughout the whole experience. Take care and KNOW how blessed you all are everyday!

I booked a hotel as soon as I found out date (last sat morning). My inlaws went to book same hotel last night and the prioce had gone from $89 to $149 so they went out further. I am so glad that we did it fast. I am only 3 hours south and I plan on driving up on the 26th as well. I am hoping I can talk my husband in to going to meet and greet. If not, then I will definately be at one or both of them. Not sure yet. Amd so excited for this site. I just love the countdown clock and the weather update. It is about the same at home here by Champaign so I am really praying for good weather for you all travelling from afar. Thank you all for all of the info. This has been so helpful to me. God Bless!!

NavyMom, l second diannep's suggestion.  We flew into Milwaukee and it was a piece of cake, and that was surprising because we arrived on a Wed. at the height of rush hour traffic at 4:00p.m..  We had no backups at all on the interstate.

Comment by diannep on December 7, 2011 at 12:10pm

I would choose Milwaukee on Southwest--easy drive to GL (45 minutes interstate and no traffic...Chicago's is the worst!).  Just schedule out your return on Sunday, if possible, so that you can wait with your sailor at one of the Chicago airports on Saturday when they leave.  Unless they are staying in GL for A School...then book out late Sunday or Monday since they should have daytime liberty if staying in GL.

Comment by Navy Mom Ship 3, Div 047 on December 7, 2011 at 11:24am

I am debating about flying into either Milwaukee(the cheapest) or Midway because southwest flies into both places and not O'Haire.  Southwest doesn't charge a fee if I need to change my date(hopefully that won't be necessary) and doesn't charge luggage fees. Does anyone have any quidance to give me?

Brother divisions for this group:

47+48, 49+50, 51+52

They train together.

Yes, thinking about the sacrifices made on this day in history...I have such a hard time looking at the video of that day....God Bless all who were serving then and serving now!

Good morning!

Comment by Mrs. David's mom on December 7, 2011 at 6:38am

We all know what today is.  And with my son now becoming part of the great brotherhood of sailors that make up the United States Navy, I not only want to honor those boys who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, but their Mothers as well.  Those women that went through the same proud emotions we are feeling today.  I honor them, and the great sacrifice THEY made as well.

Comment by Mrs. David's mom on December 7, 2011 at 6:14am

I called for reservations also.  Not that I'm anxious or anything!!!  My other son looked at the brochure and says, " look, the cheapest one is also the closest".  That's the one for me!!

But now I'm thinking about changing to the Ramada.  If we're right there it will be easier to talk hubby into going to the Meet and Greet.
