Thanks diannep I will be flying in on Spirit I am from Chicago and my son stay in Olympia Fields so he will pick me up I just didn't want to be bothered with refunding tickets I been hoping for a call today

No harm in booking your hotel room now, coachjb.  There is no penalty if you need to cancel for any reason, usually up to day of arrival.  Are you planning to fly?  If so, if you can book with Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee (45 min drive to GL,no traffic, cheaper car rental) or Chicago Midway, (hour+ drive to GL, depending on traffic).....Southwest doesn't charge a change fee if your SR is delayed for any reason and 2 bags check for free.

My son too described Bootcamp as being in jail when he was up there, because they have no control over what they can do!  HA!  Remind your SR that A School is much better.  They are back in touch with family/friends then!  So she can do this!

Good morning Diannep and great information! Thank you!

They actually graduate after BattleStations, and have a capping ceremony the morning they finish.  It is then that they trade their RECRUIT caps for their NAVY caps!  The PIR....Pass in Review....is a ceremony to honor them for their accomplishment.

Comment by diannep on January 4, 2015 at 11:23am

coachjb: No ,the confirmation call would be from your new sailor saying they completed BattleStations and will graduate.  There will be nothing issued from RTC.  If your SR graduates, their name will be listed at the gate on PIR day.  If not, they won't be listed.

Now, if a SR calls home within a week of PIR and says that he/she failed their PFA (fitness) test, you are not to go to PIR unless they call again to tell you they passed.  That is the hard part because they have up until Wed before PIR to pass it and still be at PIR in most instances....and many families have travel plans that day.  So--- hope that no one gets that call that kind of puts travel plans on hold!  Having said that, most will pass it before PIR and be there!
