Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by pat1930a on December 15, 2012 at 12:14am: thanks for the info I will use the ship number in the form letter. I am hoping to hear from him soon. On jan 2 it will be his 23 birthday. Got hotel booked. have to see if I can fly had surgery and waiting for clearance from doctors. But no matter I will be there at graduation.

Comment by diannep on December 14, 2012 at 11:31pm: pat1930: The division number is the important one. The letters should get there even if the ship # is wrong. What is written on the form letter should be the proper address. Sometimes the return address on my son's was wrong too...could never figure that out!

Comment by diannep on December 14, 2012 at 11:29pm: The form letters can sometimes take up to 2 weeks to arrive...or a little longer...to arrive. Just remember...only one can be mailed per SR (mailed by the SR). So is there anyone else who could have received it? If not...it should arrive soon!

I was sitting in a classroom getting ready to observe a teacher when my phone started buzzing! I looked down and saw 847 and started smiling! I ran out of the room saying, 'It's Alex calling from boot camp!'. She needed info for her security clearance! She did get to talk for a little bit. I told her about you and your son. I wanted to ask her about him, but I didn't know his name! They are in an integrated division.

How has your day been? I still can't find you on FB! Lol! Let me know if you get your letter!

Comment by SR'smomShip12Div079 on December 14, 2012 at 10:26pm: Yes, I live in CT and local stations have had continuous news coverage since I arrived home at 5pm - it's heartbreaking. Praying for all of the lives touched by this tragedy.

Not sure why some families have not received form letter as yet. Hope you get your letters soon.

Still reeling about the horror of what happened today in CT. Praying for all of those families affected by this tragic event. I can't even wrap my head around it.

I still didn't get my form letter. Does anyone know anything about it? Any special reason maybe because he's in Div 912? A performance division? So it takes longer?
I got the box on Monday too. But still didn't get the form letter.
