N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Wynona, they don't get to call home this soon usually, unless there is a problem - but he got to call us because they needed further info for security clearance for his job that he chose in the Navy. I had read from another mom a week or so ago that she got to talk to her child for 45 minutes, when she called for the same reason - so I was really hoping this would happen for us too, because I knew his job required more clearance than they already ran on him last summer.

@imomxfour....I'm in tears right now....thank you for sharing the info.  just knowing that little bit of information about our sons division is wonderful!  oh gosh, now the waterworks are flowing--I guess its better now than at the time of a phone call.  I just mailed my letters this morning..but wait till he gets 9 letters in ONE day...he will really think I'm crazy.  My son's name is Alex but they probably go by last names; I will message you our last name.  oh thank you thank you If you thank you....if you think of any other info, I would love to hear it.

PS, I hope its not my son holding things up but I seriously doubt it he's such a team spirited person.  prayers for the division, I want a call!

@imomxfour, where are you guys? I wonder if area is a problem why I still didn't get his form letter?
So he got to call just because he needs some information. Not because he got his first letter.
That's so fast for you. My husband got there 2 days earlier than your son. But I got the box on Monday also. No form letter yet. I wish he can call me. :(

Comment by imomxfour x 3 Sailors on December 14, 2012 at 5:12pm

Yes, he arrive around 8pm Thursday, Dec 6th, and we got his form letter on Wednesday!! (got his box on Monday)

He also got to call our daughter to get more info from her too - and she was so excited!!!!

Comment by Wynona on December 14, 2012 at 5:00pm

@imomxfour, so did you get his form letter already? And is that mean they get to call when they get their first letter?
I am happy for you. :)

Comment by imomxfour x 3 Sailors on December 14, 2012 at 4:54pm

Get your letters sent ASAP - our kids ARE getting mail already and first mail call has come and gone!!!!!!!!

How do I know this?  Because OMGosh I just got to talk to my son!!!!! He had to call home for more info for security clearance stuff, and I about fainted when I heard his voice - I knew which area codes to be on the look out for and knew instantly it was him!!!! It was such a good call, but at first he sounded sad and scared, and on the verge of crying, and I thought something was wrong, but he quickly told me why he was calling and then we got to talk for about 30 minutes - even though it was only supposed to be about that one little thing.

We only hung up when we did, because my husband was calling me and my son said he would say he needed to call his dad for this info because I didn't have it, and we said our I love you's and see you soon's (so bittersweet!!) and quickly hung up - oh I didn't want to hang up, but I wanted my husband to get a chance to talk to him too, because he said his division is a bit *slow* and they may not be granted too many calls home.

Anyhow, he said he is doing good, studying hard, wishes he had physically trained a bit harder, but what he had done w/ my husband (his dad!!) at the gym and all the running was definitely a big help.

They go to bed at 8pm and up at 4am everyday - but he says at 8pm his division studies together, and have *meetings* about how they can do better. He even said he's trying to help another boy there that is really struggling, almost got in trouble, and then refused to eat - but he got him to eat a peanut butter packet at least that day!! He went on & on, it was so awesome!!!!!

He says he misses all of us terribly though, and struggled not to cry as he says that, and as said he misses my voice - but in the middle of it all he was so eager to tell me all about the whole experience so far, and he sounded good and suer of himself as he talked about, even though he said he's got a way to go in getting better. (We've always called im our *slow boy* so that is something he is working on!!) and says he has written 5 letters to us, that they get to write at night - and that they ARE getting mail already - and he was disappointed to not get anything from anyone yet, but he knows now why that is, because we were told they don't get anything for 2-3 weeks regardless of when we start sending letters.

He said they had their first PT day today and they all need some work!! He says their RDC's are cool and he likes them, but they do get yelled at a lot because their division is slow, and making mistakes. But at only 1 week in, and as he said, being accelerated to catch up with the kids that arrived earlier in the weekI can only imagine that it's *normal* for it to be that way right now. Can't even imagine what he'll sound like in a few more weeks!!

Omgosh, he told me so much more, but anyhow I just wanted to tell you all about it!!

I REALLY needed this today!!!!

PS, Lita and Alison, I did not know your son's names but he is going to ask who has mom's named Lita & Alison to tell them we are all on this message board together!! ;-)

My son is ship 14, 078 too!! His return adress said ship 14, his form letter said ship 12, 078. I am guessing ship 14 is correct??

Can't wait for first letter from him and phone call:-))

@MSqtRet, that's sucks cause I think I am pretty much the first one to get the box from all I heard of. But probably gonna be the last who get the form letter.
I just want something about him. And I just want the official letter to come so I can book hotel and stuff. Make sure everything is fine you know.
And as a spouse, I still need to work on the ID card and stuff. But I need the form letter for that also. Ugh!
