For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I now need to ascertain if any of the men that went together from Phoenix on 12/5 are all together in this Ship/Div, too! I have not heard from any of the Mom's/Wife whose sons/husband departing on 12/5 from Phoenix on this board or on FB.

It's so comforting to know that they are not alone, which sounds silly to say because obviously, they aren't alone! But to have a personal connection with someone else that has an SR in the same division is oddly comforting, right? I hope that makes sense!

@Wynona - I'm still waiting for my letter, too! :( Fingers and toes crossed that it comes in today. I'm so impatient!!!

Comment by Alison(LS A school) on December 14, 2012 at 1:17pm: Thanks Diannep, I was going to ask about shopping at the NEX, that is awesome. I have been wanting to check one out.

When my son was DEP our local base would let us shop at the Commissary as long as he was with me but the NEX wouldn't let Deppers in. I enjoyed the Commissary shopping, really good meat at good price!

Comment by diannep on December 14, 2012 at 1:03pm: Correct, Allison. Navy Gateway Inn (on A School base) is only for those with military ID. Navy Lodge is the "civilian friendly" one as long as you have a graduating sailor and book in that name! :-)

Navy Lodge is about 1.5 miles from RTC. Many stay there and like it lots. You should receive a "pass" to shop in one of the smaller NEXs without your sailor. There is no PIR shuttle from there, but you can use Sarge's service or drive.

@my3boys, I was able to book until Monday with no questions asked. They do want the saliors name but I didn't have any trouble. From my understanding its the only Navy Lodge that allows non military to stay. I like the idea that the price the tell you is the price you pay, no taxes!

Is your tree up and decorated? Your house? Did you do a military theme? I have seen lots of those on facebook :) Do yuo have an Elf on the Shelf? Are you making any handmade gifts? What inspires you? I was inspired by a quote from Robin Roberts on Good Morning America; she said "When your friends are your family, and your family are your friends, then that's when you know you are truly blessed" So I am using the quote to make gifts for some of our friends who seem more like family. When I get one finished I will post a pic :) I love making homemade gifts and I am super excited for Christmas. We are truly Blessed <3
