For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by jskmom/Linda on December 14, 2012 at 12:00am: I have been looking into flights from Tampa fl to Milwaukee. They are not cheap. I'm used to paying $180 per person roundtrip, when I travel to Maryland. The flights I am finding average $150 per person one way. I still want to make sure PIR is actually Feb 1st before I book anything. This is going to be tough between airfare, hotel and possibly a car. We just came back from Maryland to see our son before he left for BC. Anybody know of any package deals?

Comment by ellen0502 on December 13, 2012 at 11:39pm: my3boys, Your son will have to be back to the base each night usually sometime between 8pm and 9pm, he will not be allowed to stay with you. Yes, you all can go into Chicago that weekend it is within the 50 mile limit they are allowed to travel.

A family of loved ones with the same goal. I'm sure its hard for my son but this really shouldnt be easy when you think about it. Its the making of "men." And I couldn't be any prouder!

Trying to figure out details as we look into rooms. Also will they be able to go to Chicago (downtown ) that weekend while on Liberty?

Comment by my3boys on December 13, 2012 at 9:27pm: Blue...so glad!! We got the form letter on Tuesday and his box yesterday. Still seems completely surreal until I get on here and then it is real and doable. Just knowing that there are others feeling the same way I am. thankfully we are close enough that we can drive, so we will be working on a hotel.

How about you? HAve you heard anything? Glad to find another ship 12/div 079 :)

My mom doesn't have a tix since only 3 were allowed. Whats the chance anyone has an extra they arent using? Just wishful thinking. Grandmas crushed...
