Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by MSgtRet DIV 912 on December 13, 2012 at 6:02pm: Hi! I've been hanging out for a while, got a bit more involved this week. I am also a member at the 'dads' site and Craigs navydep group, and have tried to get up to speed on Navy stuff. I spent 26 years USAF, so much is a bit different - but was in same career field.

My SR son is a future CTI, so I got the clearance call even before he got off P-Hold. (See my note on Bootcamp Moms) He's in DIV 912, presumably playing trombone like he did in high school and college. LOL

I'll be checking ground transportation with John Spadaro "Sarge", and have reservations @ Springhill. Don't know if form letter has arrived, it's going to his Mom & Stepdad (we're friends, so it works out well), and they have some health issues at the moment.

Comment by ScarletteFromGuam on December 13, 2012 at 5:46pm: My SR just gave me a security clearance call this morning! <3 A nice 15 minute call :) He told me he will be one of the sailors with flags at the PIR Ceremony. Not sure if this means his WHOLE division will be with flags.

At this point I am traveling alone, hubby is in the midst of maybe starting a new job so I didn't want to purchse his ticket yet "just in case" and my older son is in college and its hard for him to miss....SOOOO at this point I'm alone, the good thing is it helped me figure out how I was going to afford to go. lol

Enlisting was the best thing I ever did for my future career. The travel was amazing and I still have a lot of friends that were on active duty when I was and some of my friends retired from the Navy. Very cool!

If something happens you and I can ride share all the way to GL because us determined mamma's are going to be there! lol

Comment by jillymom on December 13, 2012 at 3:10pm: Glad you posted about getting asmoed; I was gonna ask. In the AF they call it recycled and any variation from general orders can trigger it. One recruit failed to properly challenge an officer (he got rattled) on Christmas Eve last year and got pushed back on the spot. Boot is a tough gig, or it makes you tough! Also I'm getting a $615 fare from Kona, Hawaii and wish I could grab it, but have to wait! Really want to come! Also, can I stop receiving emails from NFM and still get them from this group? Too much volume in my mail. :)
