Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by DrJudi ship 04 div 087 & 14/094 on December 13, 2012 at 11:29am: Good morning ladies! I am hoping to get my first "kid in a box" today, since I wasn't here yesterday when it was delivered. I will be watching the mailbox as well because a few moms who had kids on the same bus got theirs yesterday too. I really thought I would be okay yesterday after we left the airport from seeing his GF off...NOT the case. Even though I know they are both making their new journey together at RTC, it is still SO hard...my house feels like a morgue...LOL...come ON Feb 1st!!!!

Also, I wanted to know what kind of rates people are finding on rental cars out of Milwaukee. Depending on if they graduate together or not, I might be up there for 10 days...

I'm coming all the way from Guam, and I'll have to start my flights on the morning of Jan. 31st (and Guam is already a day ahead of you all)! The best flight (cheapest is $1,400) I can find to suit me is about $2,000! Wish it was much easier :( Please wish me luck on my continued efforts to get to my fiance's PIR!

ADDED new info to your PAGES section:

PAGES is located just underneath the Members Profile pictures in the middle column. It only shows ten so if the number is higher than that just click "View All" see the rest.

There is the possibility of you receiving a phone call from your SR (Seaman Recruit) during the first one to two weeks after their arrival for Security Clearance info. I received mine one week after my son arrived at RTC. Had no idea it would come that fast. I'd only really been on the site for a week or two, so I had NOTHING ready! (My son asked for two more names along with their phone number and address).So... if your Recruit has a rating that requires security clearance information...800 Divisions, IT's, CTI's CTT's Nukes, AT's (the list goes on!), anyone that handles confidential info...have a list of references by the phone.

This is a short business call and is monitored. No time for chit chat...but once in a great while the person monitoring the call allows a few extra minutes.

The area code for GL is "847". My security clearance call, the caller ID said "US GOVERNMENT". We have also had "PAY PHONE" reported and then area codes for the surrounding areas...so answer all...and just get rid of those telemarketers!

Also, if you receive a call from your SR (at any time...not just the Security Call) and miss it...please do not call the number back. Your SR could get in trouble.

Your Vehicle Gate Pass-Password is included and you will need that to obtain a Gate Pass if you wish to drive a vehicle (your own or a rental) onto RTC. This Password is Confidential and PIR specific, please do not ever give it out.
