N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hello...going to address outside social media links, etc.

All I am going to do is point you to the Navy For Moms (N4M) Community Guidelines. (That's a clickable link) Please see the section on • Don’t Solicit for Products, Services, etc. It's the seventh item down.

While you're there please go ahead and go over the rest of them if you have not read them yet. They're here to help, not hurt. :-)

If you have ANY questions please feel free to message the site administrator. just click her Profile Pic or the link next to "Posted by" under the title of the Forum Discussion.

Carm - I edited your post from earlier and removed your full name as a precautionary measure. Last names of Recruits/Sailors are not allowed on the N4M's website as per the Community Guidelines . If you so not have the same last name as your recruit then my apologies.

I just wanted to say good morning to everyone!...My son is ship 12 Div 080..graduating Feb 1st. I know that we are so proud of our children, spouses for giving of themselves at this time...it's mixed emotions sometimes..but I for one couldn't be any prouder. :)..The pic is of my son Austin who is enlisted with 2 of his 3 siblings :D...

Okay Alison I will call tomorrow. I week down. Keep em coming. This Sunday they should actually get some time for themselves I believe.

Scarlette, will do!  Fingers crossed that it comes tomorrow!!!

Comment by ScarletteFromGuam on December 13, 2012 at 1:55am

Rose - Me too. Obviously mail is getting to you much faster. Please let me know when you get his form letter and the actual PIR date given to you on it :)

Comment by Rose HM A School on December 13, 2012 at 1:49am

Scarlette - my son got to BC on Wednesday, Dec. 5th.  I got his box on Monday so I just assumed/hoped I would get his form letter today. I know that was wishful thinking on my part, but this non-communication thing is so hard.  I think we are safe to "assume" they are going to have their PIR on 2/1, I just don't want to get crushed if I'm wrong and it's a whole week later.... :(

Comment by ellen0502 on December 13, 2012 at 1:29am

Mailing letters before you receive the form letter does not mean they will get those letters sooner. Before mail is received a recruit in each division must to be trained to handle the mail, this process can take up to a couple of weeks after they start training.

The first mail delivery that your SRs get is usually the second Sunday after they start their training, after that first delivery they should receive mail on a regular basis. So don't fret if you aren't sending mail right away, they wont get it any sooner.

Comment by ScarletteFromGuam on December 13, 2012 at 12:51am

*Sorry - his 8th week would be 2/1. His 9th week would be 2/8.

Comment by ScarletteFromGuam on December 13, 2012 at 12:50am

Yeah, I just was talking to another use about this. I think the recruiter got another person with the same name's address. My fiance got to boot camp on 12/5, and his 9th week would actually be on the 2/1 PIR though.
