For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by ScarletteFromGuam on December 13, 2012 at 12:40am: Hey Rose, when did your recruit get to boot camp? I'm in the same situation. I'm expecting PIR to be 2/1, but waiting on the letter to confirm it before making final reservations.

Comment by Rose HM A School on December 13, 2012 at 12:35am: Hi Lita, that's great that you got bought your plane tickets already. I know my husband was checking on flights but I just want to get that letter confirming the PIR date before we confirm anything. I'm sure it's going to be Feb. 1st but I will feel better (in more ways than one!) when I have that letter in hand with all of the information. I went ahead and mailed a few letters out on Monday and I'm going to mail another one tomorrow so hopefully the info I got from the recruiter is correct!!! I'll pray that all of us still waiting will get our letters tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!! XOXOXOX to all....

I'm debating on the car, I wasn't originally going to but since I'm going to be there from wednesday to Monday I think I will at least for a couple days. I was thinking of using sarge to/from airport, especially of the weather is bad.

Good and bad days. Bought the plane tickets. Booking the rooms next. They said we had to wait until 30 days from graduation to book at the lodge.

Was hoping to get my form letter today but no such luck. :( I went ahead and mailed a few letters anyway using the address I got from the recruiter so I hope he got the info right!!! Today is exactly one week since my son left and I can honestly say I'm doing much better emotionally. I just wish there was some type of communication.... The "radio silence" is killin' me!

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:14pm: RE: the PIR guest list. The SRs are allowed to update this a week before PIR. In the meantime, be sure to write to your SRs and include the guests' names exactly as they appear on the ID they will be using to get on base. Saves alot of problems!

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:12pm: Allison: Just wanted to make a correction to your post, per the RTC Upcoming Graduation Page. Everyone "3 and older" needs to be on the guest list. 2 and under do not have to be.

Allison: Will you be renting a car? If so, car rental is cheaper in Milwaukee too, we have heard! :-) If not renting a car, consider using SARGE's transportation services from the airport and around GL with your new sailor! Especially if you are traveling alone!

He is in 12 USS Triton, Division 048M. Anyone else with a loved one in this?
