Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Navymom8 on December 12, 2012 at 5:41pm: Anyone have a recruit on Ship 14 Division 077?? Just found out my daughter is in that division (my 2nd daughter now in boot camp). Emotions still feel the same.... just when you think it's going to get easier... Nope! Another daughter is now there, this all over again. Let me know, thanks! :)

It says those are his intended guests, and about a week or so before graduation they will turn in THE access list for graduation - and they suggest, of course, discussing this list through letters to confirm who WILL on the list!!!

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on December 12, 2012 at 5:11pm: imomxfour, I could be wrong in saying this, (and I apologize if I am wrong) but I do believe that you can write to your SR and ask that he edit his list of guests. He is the only person who can change the list though. I would just ask him to delete your son's name and put his sister's name in that place.

Recently RTC has been really strict about the graduation list, so I would do it in the next letter.

Comment by imomxfour x 3 Sailors on December 12, 2012 at 5:05pm: OMGosh, please advise - we just got the form letter and while we knew they could only have 3 guests at PIR now, we didn't know THEY would decide who got cut out, and they cut our daughter, since she was listed last on the form - you can tell he wrote it in, but then someone came in a blacked the 4th person out along with some other stuff in the letter. This is horrible!!!!! Our daughter is the one who is adamant about going to the graduation, because they are the closest to one another, and our other 2 boys are ok with that, so long as they are there and get to spend time with him afterwards - so it was no a problem for just us (mom & dad) and our daughter to attend the ceremony.

PLEASE tell me there is a way to change this!!!!! Who can I contact if anyone? Of all the things to happen, this will cause major drama and heartache for our daughter - and ultimately us, and our 15 yr old who is listed, really could care less about THAT part. The only reason our other son was ok with not being included at all, is because he started a new job and wasn't even sure he could get the time off anyway.

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 2:45pm: AMEN to what Betsy said. In the past, we have had ladies leave this group and stay just on FB. Some of their info would get very confused because they weren't checking with any N4Moms veterans. We work very hard to tweek our info to make sure it is correct for you....we are all from different PIR times....from my son's back in early 2010 to ellen's son just this past summer. So we are well-rounded and want to make sure you are knowledgeable so please stay on this site!

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on December 12, 2012 at 1:24pm: Ladies, if you do decide to join the FB page, Please, Please, Please continue to come on here every day as well. We do understand that it's nice to chat on there, but please remember that a lot of the information that you will need to know, will be coming from the "veterans" on here. There is no better way to be informed, than from those who have already gone through what you are now. Just remember that the FB page will, most likely, be ladies new to this, just like you and sometimes the information that will passed on may be confusing or even inaccurate. Even though the FB page may be private, remember that it is still the internet and anyone could get into it, if they really wanted too. I would be careful of putting a last name out there, as well, since some of your SR's may have the same last name.

Maybe the form letter will arrive before they find out.
