N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hi, Ladies.  I am another N4Moms veteran on here to help!  My son arrived at bootcamp back in 2009.

Welcome to all of you!

Just wanted to mention something about their mail.  Although you can write to the recruiter's address (please check this with the form letter address because sometimes the recruiters' addresses have changed----but letters will eventually "find" your SR)....the mail is held from the SRs for about 2 weeks.  This is so that they train their division's Recruit Mail Petty Officer.  So it is very possible that when you receive that first letter (also they usually are not allowed to write for 2 weeks), your SR may ask why you haven't written.  This is because they sometimes write before the letters have been released to them.  No worries....they'll get them all!  If you want to mail pictures, we recommend that you scan them onto the back of your letters or on a separate sheet (collage style).  This will keep them from having to open the "thicker" envelope in front of their RDCs....and it also takes up less storage space (that is very limited for them)

Good Morning!

Began writing my first letter....made me realize how much happens in just "normal life" within a weeks time.  Last two days have been the hardest thus far, mostly because it really hit me our son will not be home for Christmas. We did his Christmas, but the reality is that it is not the same.  Traditions that we have closer to the day cannot be crammed into a small space of time :)

Looking forward to getting our box.  Thinking about all of you and praying for your sons and daughters

Hi everyone, can't believe that my son has been gone less than a week and I received the box already. I received address info from recruiter but I'm anxious to receive form letter to confirm everything. Can't wait for a phone call too!

A "ship" at boot camp is truly just a building.  They call it a ship just to get the newbies to start using that word.

- Each ship (building) has its own name.  For example, Ship 12, the USS Triton.

- Each ship has 3 different floors.

- On each floor they have 4 divisions. So you have 3 floors x 4 divisions = 12 divisions per ship.

- Each division has ~80 sailors, so you have 80 sailors x 12 division = 960 sailors per ship.  So you can say, the USS Triton has ~960 sailors on it.

- What people get messed up on is they think each ship graduates (PIR) on the same date.  It doesn't.  Only a few divisions will graduate.  You can a couple divisions from USS Triton Ship-12, a couple from USS Arizona Ship 14, maybe 4 divisions the USS Kearsarge Ship 11, and maybe four divisions from the USS Chicago Ship 7.  So at PIR (graduation) many ships are represented.

All ships are exactly the same since they were contacted at the same time.

Hi landlocked, I'm bummed about the 3 for PIR also.  I have a younger daughter and two grandmas that wanted to go.  My mom will probably end up staying home but my mother-in-law really wanted to go so I'm not sure how we are going to do this. Maybe she can still come with us but wait to see him after the ceremony.  I guess that's how most people do it.  I would also love to know how many divisions are in one ship...

Ship 12, DIV 079.    Bummed about 3.  Guess Dad and I will go to PIR and leave brother and sister in the hotel.  Can't choose between the 2 of them.  That wouldn't be fair.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

How many divisions stay in one ship?

Thank you FTLW - Hi everyone, my son is Ship 03 Div 082. Anyone else???  I got his box today and cried a little bit but not nearly as hysterical as I was when he left last week. :)  I'll take that as a good sign that I'm starting to slowly get used to this. Like another mom said, I've never been so happy to see his dirty laundry!!! I didn't get his form letter yet but I was able to get his address and PIR information from his recruiter this morning.  Can't wait for that first letter to arrive!!!

Right. Step dad got bumped. I'm so upset. He's a CW3 and so wanted to be there. Oh we'll rules are rules. Hot box today. Band aids and mole skin were sent back home? Thought they were allowed?
