~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

So some calls came in from 079/080....but did anyone hear from 081/082?
Congrats to the sailors of 079/080!
For those of you with sailors who are staying in GL for A School. Remember your SAILOR (I love that word) will have only about an hour after PIR with you before checking back into their ship on the RTC side to pack and be bussed over to the TSC side.
This process can take several hours, so keep your phones handy, your SAILOR will call you when they can leave for Friday liberty. This call may come from any area code, sometimes the sailors who are already in school loan their phones to the newbies to make the call.
If you can, and weather permitting (for you and your SAILOR), get to the main gate to pick them up before they call you, and wait. The new SAILORS march as a group from their ship, which is on the opposite side of the base from the gate, you can hear them from a long way away. The anticipation as to whether your sailor is in the group you can hear coming is almost as good as the wait for the door to open at PIR.
On Sat and Sunday you will have to check your SAILOR in and out of his/her ship for liberty. The person who checks him/her out must be the same person to check them back in at night (this may not be the case sometimes, but better safe than sorry).
Also, keep your gate pass from PIR, you may be able to use it to drive your SAILOR to and from his ship while in liberty for the weekend (your sailor must be with you in the car). If you can't drive on to base, you will have to walk back with them to their ship to check them out and in.THEY CANNOT BE LATE IN RETURNING, or they may have the rest of their liberty for the weekend taken away!! It is a long way from the front gate to where their ships are, so be prepared, and allow them plenty of time to get back to their ship.
Have a great weekend all, safe travels, and you are in for the best hug ever!!
Hi everyone,
Just had to chime in:) So excited about PIR. Busy getting last things done before we leave Wed. night. Looking forward to meeting many of you and to seeing our sailors!!!!! Everyone be safe in their travels.
I'm not bringing a gift for my son to graduation either. He just had X-Mas & received a new tablet which is making the trip to the airport Sat along with other things on his list. He does need a new cell phone so once he gets settled that will be on its way. He can make do with the old one for a few more weeks . As if he's going to have all the time to chat ... with A school coming. LOL
diannep: thank you so much....I dont feel so bad now...for a moment there I thought I was the worst mom ever...thinking he would be the only one without a gift....LOL cant wait to meet you all real soon.....counting down the seconds....
I'm a Sailor calls can start at any time now! Please post the division number your sailor is calling from and ask if all passed!
jillymom: There is a larger NEX that is off of RTC base. You could probably go with your sailor to order the ring there after you pick him up from GL A School base for Liberty---but since you will have daytime liberty with him through the weekend, you have plenty of time. It is on Green Bay Rd, very close to both RTC and GL A School.
edragon: There is no RSVP for PIR. But there IS RSVPing for those attending the MeetandGreets. Not sure why your SR would have told you to do this as I don't even know if they are aware of the MeetandGreets, but that could be what your SR meant. You get into PIR by having your name on your sailor's guest list, which will be at the gate. They would have just updated them.
As far as gifts, many do this. But remember...they can take nothing back with them to RTC after Liberty....but you can meet them at the airport with the gifts. If staying in GL for A School, they can take the gift back once they have had Liberty with you. Some give watches (black or silver only...no gold), some give cellphones, laptops, gift cards, etc. Some take their new sailor shopping on PIR Day and let them pick out their gift. It is up to you!
I am so excited I cant wait until Friday. I am flying out from Atl thursday via delta to ORD O'Hare International Airport and using ace car rental. Then I am heading to Sarges meet and greet.
