OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

diannep, Haha, be careful what you wish for, I may just head down soon.  :)  One day I will be coming to see you, I promise!

ilovejm and Jillymom, Wow, you both sure are traveling far to see your SR.  That's awesome!

Oh God! I'm in Puerto Rico, the coldest we got here this month was 71, i guess my sailor will have to find me by my eyes because i'll be covered from head to toe inside multiple layers of fabric lol... well, challenge accepted then! ;-)

My LandsEnd down parka for 0-25below and earwarmers arrived today. This Hawaiian is READY. Except they don't sell wool socks here, so, Gurnee Mills on Thursday.

...your room is ready down here, Betsy!  :-)

diannep, I am jealous of your 60 degrees today.

We woke up to snow, in my area of Maryland with temps of 12 degrees and the wonderful bitter wind that comes with it.  Yuck!  More snow forecasted for tomorrow.

I think that midwest weather headed our way this week.

Comment by diannep on January 24, 2013 at 1:18pm

This is the only time of year that we in MIA are the envy of many for our weather...because starting in April or so, we are back to HOT AND HUMID....very uncomfortable...with the threat of hurricanes for 6 months starting June 1st!  Not fun...and insurance down here is out of sight.  When mine topped out at $5,000/yr, I dropped it....just no way people can afford it anymore.  This is windstorm insurance for hurricanes plus homeowners which is also ridiculous now because of mold issues and sink hole issues.  UGH!

Comment by herbgarden(Ship12Div085) on January 24, 2013 at 11:14am

Lol, yes diannep, you are right, it was 5 degrees this morn at 6 am when I got up. Don't want to know the wind chill! But it's going up, 8 degrees now! I know how nice it is where you are, we were in Naples Fl. arranging my stepdaughters funeral, it was gorgeous there, in the 70's. Of course, with our weird mid-western weather, my SR said it was 70 at GL too! So you never know, could be a lot warmer next Friday! Maybe in the 30's!

I'm happy though, because we got letters from our SR yesterday!

We here in West Michigan have had the same frigid temps and snow this past weekend and early week.  For the faint at heart :) in regards to cold temps, the best advice in preparing for your PIR trip is to bring layers to wear.  Even layering your socks in boots helps in keeping you warm.  Cotton tshirts, layered under long sleeve t's and a sweater or sweatshirt over does wonders.  I am trying not to envy your "warm posts" ;)  I have lived in Michigan my entire life...Breathtaking beauty, but have never liked the cold.  We are tough troopers though.....cannot imagine living away from the lake.

I cannot believe we will see our recruits-soon sailors in 8 days and some odd hours.  Prayers for each of you.....

Comment by diannep on January 24, 2013 at 8:56am

OK, herbgarden.  Thinking your "heat wave" is over!  Chicago was one of the coldest cities featured on Good Morning American this morning!  BRRRRRR.....it was 60 when I walked before sun up this morning here in MIA....chilly for us S. Floridians who have very thin blood, apparently!  But no complaints....we actually love a "taste of cold" since we are "HOT and HUMID" for about 9-10 mos of the year.

Good Morning All!
