Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by herbgarden(Ship12Div085) on January 16, 2013 at 9:57am: Pat130a, in Chicago, at Navy Pier, there is Bubba Gump shrimp, that's pretty good. Also the famous "Cheeseborger" place of Saturday Night Live fame. If you want super fancy, there is Lawry's in Chicago too. If you like Greek food, you can go to "Greektown", where there are many Greek restaurants. Rick Bayless, the famous Chicago TV chef, has two restaurants in the city, Frontera Grill, and Topolobampo. I 'm pretty sure you need reservations for those 2, however. I am not familiar with the Great Lakes area. My husband is not here to ask, he probably knows some, definitely knows many places in the city of Chicago.

Comment by jskmom/Linda on January 15, 2013 at 7:41pm: FYI, this is for anyone who is staying at Courtyard Marriott. I just called and asked about a shuttle to the graduation. They leave 3 different times. 6:00am, 6:45am and 7:30am. They do not take early reservations. When you arrive, let know you need a shuttle for the graduation and they put your name on the list. It does cost $3.00 per person each way and yes there is a charge the Sailor. No big deal, I think it is well worth it. The shuttle coming back to hotel leaves every 15 min.
