~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Lala:  I can imagine that subbing in there today made that awful tragedy feel "so real" to you....wow.

Congrats on the great phone call, snowmanmom!

The pay phones "eat up" alot of the phone card minutes.  So, yes, they can go through them pretty quickly, especially if they call more than one person during their allotted minutes. Connection charges are high!

Great phone call with my son, he sounded great and so happy!!!!  I am happy but so sad now that I hear his voice I want him here with me.  Selfish and I am praying on lettting go.  I am just not doing so well at it.  I was able to let him talk because I was crying hysterically I completely lost it hearing his voice.  He kept telling me how happy he was so I feel like I let him down.. I have to get better at this.  He said the men are starting to feel better.  He said they are having haircuts and such tomorrow they do not have there uniforms yet so pictures was taken. All test he was passing loving every minute of it. He asked for more phone cards I dont understand phone cards but I guess the minutes must go fast. I hope everyone heard from their RC

I can add to that as well. The honor guard families sit close to the center of the PIR hall and have blue cushions on the seats. The 900 division families sit right next to the honor guard families. The 900 division Sailors don't march in like the other divisions. If they are in the band, choir, flag corp or drill team they will come in as they perform. The others will doing different things at different times. If they are part of the ships staff then they could be a greeter at a door, working with and taking care of the VIP's, body snatchers, or side boys. Side boys form a line on either side of the center door that the VIP's come through. Body snatchers walk up and down the isles of Sailors making sure they have not locked their knees which could cause them to faint. You are going to LOVE PIR :)

I hope everyone had a great day. I was subbing for 3rd graders. They are a wonderful group of kids such a joy to be around. Walking into the school made me think of Sandy Hook Elementary. Something like that makes you look at everything differently than you ever have before :(

Here are some photos to add to diannep's post :-):

Okay...the pic above… See the yellow lines? Those start off to the left at the big garage door that opens to let your Sailors in. They'll come in in order of their Divisions and march all the way to the other end and make a U-ee, march back and then line up in formation by division. See the closest set of stacked chairs? That is where the first Division will stand…then it goes on down the line. The 900 Div is in the middle I believe (they come in after...a space is left for them) I believe the 800 Divisions march in last…but don’t quote me on that!

When you come into the Hall you will see Sailors on the floor standing next to Division markers. This is where your Division will be standing for PIR. You should sit in the stands in front of the marker. The markers are positioned so that when you sit in the stands your Division is a little bit to the right of you. There is also seating upstairs in the balcony.

Here is another pic of a Division Marker:

...you can see the Garage Door Entrance open on the left side of the pic...this was before the ceremony. The Divison markers are removed before the ceremony.

jillymom:   There will be honor guards standing in front of each division section, with division numbers.  So you will be able to find your section with no problem.

There is also balcony seating.  The division will march in, circle the drill hall, and line up in front of your section, near the wall across from you, with their backs to you.  They will be given an order to remove their outerwear (trenchcoats)....sailors walk through the ranks and collect them.  Then...when they are given the order to "about face", what a moment that is!  They then are facing you for the rest of the ceremony.

Comment by jillymom on January 7, 2013 at 7:24pm

Is there any kind of floor plan for PIR that shows where the different divisions will be standing?

Jodenne and pat1930, my son in ship14, 078, said there are some "knuckleheads" not catching on and are holding them back. I hope next letter he says they have caught on! Sending prayers:-)
