~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

As far as losing their job rating...yes, that does happen for the reason he said. Don't know how often, but it does happen. Lets hope his doesn't! Rates become overmanned and they have to choose another available one. Even when they are in the fleet in their rate, if they go to re enlist, many of their rates are now overmanned and they must try for another and they are discharged. The problem with an overmanned Navy! A problem they haven't had probably....EVER...until the last few years.
Doubtful that the Pensacola students leave PIR Day. Unless that is something new. They could be bussed to the airport late in the evening, however, but even that is usually done in the wee hours of the next morning. Some have said that they also have left on Sundays too (usually when they can't book flights on Saturday...a large number of sailors head to Pensacola and they need to get them on flights as a group).
As far as coming home after bootcamp for 2 weeks...hmmm....interesting that you say that happened to someone. Had never heard of that before. Now, it happened to the ones who graduated over the Christmas break, but I have not heard of it happening another time. But anything could happen now...the Navy is very overmanned and so there are backups in schools sometimes. I would ask about this on the Pensacola A School group on this site to see what those sailors did when they graduated. That is where your best info will be...from those ladies.
RAP duty is available to them after A School. They can work in the recruiters office and the days they work there do not count against their Leave days. They need to set this up with their recruiter prior to Leave. Don't think they can do this (work in recruiter's office) prior to completing A School, however. At least, that was the former rule. You can check with your recruiter about that. When my son was in DEP, a guy doing this came to speak to his DEP group...which was a treat for them. So this is a great way for them to conserve their Leave days.
Good Morning!
Lala, that's exactly what my husband said to him, that the pictures are probably not even really that person!! It makes me ill to think of how horrible some people are, to have nothing better to do than troll around looking for info like this, to try and get in with someone they don't even know, for a free ride!! :(
Questions for the veteran moms and/or Craig....
How often do they "lose" their job/rate in BC? Our son said today that he could lose his IT rating if there's no room for him, because IT is so full right now. He (and we) are really not happy about this, and feel a bit deceived. I mean, isn't that the whole purpose of holding them off for BC until they can fit them in for the job they chose?
Also, I'm hearing multiple possibilities for when they leave for A School - if he gets to stay IT and go to Pensacola as planned I've heard that he may get to come home for 2 weeks after BC if they don't have room for them there yet (this actually happened for another SR's friend a few months ago!!) but then our son also said that last Friday they got to talk to some of newly graduated SR's when they saw them outside with their families, and they told him anyone leaving for Pensacola after graduation leaves THAT day on Friday. Do you all have any insight in this? (my head is spinning with all the possibilties of exactly WHAT is going to happen after graduations right now!! ugh, lol)
Also, what is RAP duty? W (or something like that - where they help their recruiters with recruiting stuff at home after BC) He said someone was talking about it, and that they could maybe go home for a week after PIR and do that if it's arranged for - another mom said she thought that it was after A School, because her SR's were talking about it at some point too. Our son said to check with his recruiter and ask about it, so I will do that tomorrow, but I thought I'd ask here first! ;-)
I guess that's it for now....
imomxfour, I saw your post on facebook and wanted to comment here as well. This is just a horrible thing. And a very good point as to why last names should not be posted and Now I think the address should not be posted either. These young men and even the women need to be aware that just because someone sends them a pic and looks and sounds like a great person the pic is most likely a fake. The first time they go out to meet this person they have been corresponding with they could get robbed or a lot worse. Everyone please be careful what you post on any internet site.
I also posted on facebook, and now I'm posting this here too because I think it's important:
Feels weird to post this again for those of you who already know, lol, but for those of you not on the FB page for our PIR group...we got a call again too!!! Our son is one of the kids who is really sick though, he sounded terrible. But in terms of his spirits and emotionally he sounds much more confident and he's doing just fine now!!! HUGE RELIEF!!!! ;-)
Rose, my son had his wisdom teeth pulled today too. His call last night (Div 088) was to his girlfriend, he told her he'd be out for 2 days. There was nothing wrong with his teeth when he left so I'm not sure why they're pulling them.
