~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sometimes they do write during holiday routine, imomxfour.  So lets hope that tomorrow, they are writing and mailing out on Wed!

Comment by imomxfour x 3 Sailors on December 31, 2012 at 8:41pm

Thanks for letting me know. I was more or less wondering if they were "at least" allowed to stay up a little later to midnight & count down to the New Year - and if so, I wondered if they would have that free time from their usual lights out time at 10pm until midnight.

For holiday routine, remind me, do they get to write letters and mail them out? I noticed some other moms got mail the past few days dated the 25th/Christmas. Not that big of a deal since it was just Sunday and I know we'll get something later this week, but you know, it'd be fun to get even more than usual!! ;-)

I doubt it imomxfour, I know my daughter was there for the 4th of July and they got a special meal but that was it. She said they could hear fireworks out side but no windows to see them :( Hopefully they will get a special meal and if nothing else they at least get an extra day of rest and holiday routine :)

Do you think our SR's get to do anything fun at all tonight, for New Years Eve?

Comment by pat1930a on December 31, 2012 at 4:07pm

dianne, thank you for the advice!!! I kindof thought that, and needed you all to verify it for me!! ;-)

And thank you Lala - that was one questionnaire that I hadn't sent yet, so this is perfect for right now, like you said - to address the battlestations topic!!!!

And yikes, I am SO not a morning person, haha, so to be there driving on base at 6:30am for PIR, what fun!!!! ;-)

Lol! I sent the questionnaire in the first group of letters I sent my daughter! No response to any of the questions! I am tempted to full it out if myself with my own funny responses and send it to her!
Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on December 31, 2012 at 11:11am

Good morning everyone. When my daughter was at boot camp I made a questionnaire to send to her. I added in all the questions that I had been asking her in my letters but had not received answers to. I made it a little funny to make her smile and I added a paragraph of encouragement to help her get through battle stations. I added it to the discussions above so you can share it with your recruit as well. You can copy and paste it and print it out to send with your next letter. You may have to tweak it a little bit since my Sailor is a girl :-) Feel free to make it your own. I hope it will brighten your Soon to be Sailors day as much as it did mine. Be sure to include a self-addressed envelope so they are more likely to send it back.

imomxfour, this would be a good way to tell your recruit a little about battle stations :)

Anybody else with an SR in Div 085 that knows why they aren't getting phone calls? Have they been naughty, lol?
