Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

They would be into their training weeks by now though. There are 6 of those before they do BattleStations after which they are sailors. 087/088 will be last to become sailors in this PIR group....which should happen a couple of days before PIR!

It is ok for them to have some of these, which they can take over there once they have moved onto GL A School base after PIR. They will just have to put them away until they can wear them. I would take what they packed up there and let them pick/choose what they want, if not all of it. They will know what they are allowed to have! You can always mail more to them later.

Comment by DrJudi ship 04 div 087 & 14/094 on December 26, 2012 at 9:38pm: Question: My son and his GF are both attending A school at GL..they packed duffel bags with a lot of their personal stuff (regular clothes, underwear, etc.) before they left...I was instructed to bring them with me to PIR, so they would have them during A school, but I was reading the liberty policy for GL, and they will have "on base" liberty, and not be able to wear regular clothes...would it be a waste of time (and space) to bring them--should I just pack a small bag with underwear and pajamas? And are they allowed to have their laptops and/or tablets?? I sure don't wanna bring 2-50 pound duffel bags if I don't need to! LOL

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, We had our Sailors home and 21 other family members at our home for Christmas dinner and Crazy Santa. It was loads of fun :) Already looking forward to next year when we will add to the family members here with our new grand baby due in early August :)
