N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@Nick Mom in my letter he said that they did not get out of they processing ship until the 14th of Dec.    and they were only on a P5 day do you know what this means

Yes, I wish I knew something that he was doing I really did not get no details.  Are they allowed to let us know?  I am just glad to have some word from him.  It did sound like they were strict but I guess that is good.

Thank you Dianne!!!

Yes you can, imomxfour.  He may have to open it in front of the RDCs but that is fine.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, I think he's doing better now after our Christmas Eve call!! He sounded better anyway - aside from first saying hello and having to say goodbye again.

Question:

Can we send a big 11x13 folded up manilla envelope with postage on it, for our SR's to send back mail they don't have room for, but want to keep? I read this on one of the questionnaires I sent to my son, and he did say the other day that he would like that - but before sending it, I wanted to make sure it was really ok to do that - to be sure they are ABLE to do that. TIA!!!

jskmom I never thought about it that way, and you are right. I just need to stay focused on the big picture and know that he will make the call and send letters as soon as he can. Have a wonderful day and I am praying that we all receive a letter from our SR really soon, today would be great.

Comment by jskmom/Linda on December 26, 2012 at 3:34pm

bigzomom, I too was hoping for a call. It may be good that we did not receive one though if you think about it. As much as our kids are probably homesick, it may have been worse for all of us if we heard their voices. I have not gotten mail yet today, so hoping to at least get a letter. fingers crossed. Hope all had a great Christmas, regardless of not hearing from our SR's. bigzomom, we have to just think our boys are very busy and doing well.
